Earlier this month, BroadwayWorld reported that movie director Kevin Smith wants to bring his 1994 flim 'Clerks' to the Broadway stage in 2014. If this plan comes to fruition it will join the ranks of Disney's THE LION KING- another successful 1994 film, which opened in back in 1997 and is still running at the Minskoff Theatre.

Patrick Healy, New York Times reporter on the theater beat, is set to return to THEATER TALK in an all-new interview about the contentious SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK lawsuit between the show's producers and its ousted director Julie Taymor. He also helps begin THEATER TALK's coverage of the 2012 Tony Award competition by speculating about the Best Musical race between NEWSIES and ONCE.

The revised book of The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess has been the subject of much discussion since it's debut at A.R.T. last August, and according to Patrick Healy of the New York Times, there is still debate over its Tony eligibility. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, last week, when the Tony administration committee made a decision regarding David Alan Grier's eligibility as a featured actor, they 'took no action' with the musical's updated book (by Suzan-Lori Parks and Diedre Murray), thus making it ineligible for a 'Best Book of a Musical' Tony Award. This March Anthony Kearns with his accompanist, pianist Patrick Healy, performs a series of concerts in six states culminating with a performance at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library. Kearns is hailed as the voice of the century and acknowledged by Ireland's Ambassador to the U.S. as Ireland's foremost tenor and a great ambassador for Ireland.

On January 6, Michael Riedel reported in the New York Post that LEAP OF FAITH, which had been planning for a Fall 2012 debut on Broadway was hoping to move to the Spring of 2012 instead. Today, Patrick Healy of The New York Times has confirmed that hope, via a newsletter from producer Daryl Roth, in which she notes that there should be news 'shortly' and that 'hopefully' the show will open in the Spring.

According to a report in the New York Times, HAND OF GOD, which recently concluded an off-Broadway run at Ensemble Studio Theater, will return for their 2012 season in February for eight weeks. Additionally, the show, which is about a a Texas teenager and a demonic puppet, might make a transfer to Broadway in the 2012-13 season. NYT's Patrick Healy writes: 'Theater executives working on "Hand to God" said on Tuesday that among the producers considering the show were Kevin McCollum and Roy Miller, who have produced open-ended runs of new works, including the Broadway musicals "[title of show]" and "The Drowsy Chaperone."'

The Off Broadway production of Standing On Ceremony kicked off its open-ended run last night, November 7, and featured an introduction from Evan Wolfson, Founder and President of Freedom to Marry. Conceived by Brian Shnipper and directed by Stuart Ross, Standing On Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays began as a series of benefit events in Los Angeles, taking on a life of their own as an inspiring theatrical evening. The official opening night set for Sunday, November 13 and a premiere cast that includes Craig Bierko, Mark Consuelos, Polly Draper, Harriet Harris, Beth Leavel and Richard Thomas. The VIP musical wine reception on Thurs., October 20, 2011, hosted by the ONE Campaign at the Embassy of New Zealand in Washington, D.C. for the USO and Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, was a triumphant success. This was the first time that the ONE Campaign teamed up with Irish Tenor Anthony Kearns for the USO, and the second time the New Zealand Embassy hosted Kearns for a military benefit. (The last time was Christmas 2010).

The New York Times reports today that Michael Cristofer will lead the Huntington Theatre Company's new production of Captors as Adolf Eichmann. The play, according to the Times, is already slated for a Broadway transfer next season.

The Normal Heart made its World Premiere at The Public Theater in 1985 and premiered on Broadway on April 19, 2011 before opening to rave reviews on April 27, 2011.
