Today's subject Maboud Ebrahimzadeh is one of the area's most versatile actors. Currently, you can see him in action in the very unique Small Mouth Sounds at Round House Theatre through September 23rd. The word unique, in this case, is meant as a compliment, but you'll have to see the show for yourself to understand why.

MARY'S WEDDING to Run 1/28-2/21 at Malibu Playhouse

- Jan 20, 2016
"Mary's Wedding" premiers January 28 - February 21, 2016 at the Malibu Playhouse, officially launching their 2016 season under the helm of Jeremy Skidmore, world-renowned theater director and formerly Artistic Director of Theater Alliance in Washington, D.C. Written by Stephen Massicotte and performed by Hallie Cooper and Mark Jude Sullivan, "MARY'S WEDDING," produced and directed by Skidmore, is a brilliant, romantic and historical dream play. When Mary and Charlie unexpectedly find one another sheltered in a barn during a thunderstorm, a tentative love is born. But the year is 1914, and their first flirtations ignite right as World War I begins to engulf the western world. Nevertheless, their bond begins to fracture the hard rules of time as their story unfolds across vast prairies, on the decks of silently sailing war ships, and entwined with the chaotic trenches of Europe's no-man's land. Mary's Wedding captures an extraordinary moment of innocence and courage with rare sensitivity and beauty.

BWW Interview: Co-writers JASON LOTT & HELEN PAFUMI Discuss Their Magical Solo Christmas Show WONDERFUL LIFE
by Don Grigware
- Dec 3, 2015
Actor/writer Jason Lott and writer Helen Murray Pafumi collaborated on writing Wonderful Life currently onstage at the Malibu Playhouse. I caught up with both of them to see how all of this got started and what they feel they have accomplished with their Christmas play.
What motivated both of you to adapt It's a Wonderful Life?
JL: Honestly, it was all Helen's idea. She wanted to do a one-person holiday show at her theatre, but wasn't finding the right script. She approached me about doing the show (whatever it might turn out to be) and mentioned that she was planning to adapt It's A Wonderful Life. I asked if she'd mind if I co-wrote it with her and she was gracious enough to say 'Yes.' You could make the argument that I only asked to co-write because I knew it would be easier to memorize that way, but that's only half-true (because, honestly, it is easier for me to memorize something I've written). The other side is that I only knew a little bit about It's A Wonderful Life. I knew it was an 'American classic' and I knew that I loved Jimmy Stewart's work in other movies, but the embarrassing fact is that I'd only seen bits and pieces over the years. I'd never watched the whole thing in one sitting. Once I did, though, I fell in love with the movie and absolutely wanted to help bring that story to the stage.

BWW Reviews: THE NIGHT FAIRY Learns the Law of the Jungle at Imagination Stage
by Lorna Mulvaney
- Sep 29, 2014
At first glance, Imagination Stage's Night Fairy is a story about an injured Night Fairy who must learn to survive in the daytime. However, although Flory the Night Fairy does manage to survive in her new ecosystem, the means by which she thrives often seem overly harsh and not all that noble.

Fairies, dogs, monsters, genies, and long-lost sisters make up Imagination Stage's 2014-2015 season of professional theatre. In the season ahead, five very different role models for bravery are explored on stage: a night fairy surviving by day; a Dalmatian couple trying to rescue their pups; a little boy facing his darkest fears in the southern swamp; young explorers tasked with saving their city of Baghdad; and two twins unknowingly separated and reunited in an unexpected location.
