The six-time Tony and Grammy award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen has finally arrived at The Fisher Theater in Detroit! The much anticipated national tour began in 2019 and nearly three years later Dear Evan Hansen is here for the first time in Detroit, running through October 9th. This show is a contemporary musical with songs written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Professionally known as Pasek and Paul, the duo has written songs for well-known movies such as La La Land and The Greatest Showman. Pasek and Paul met at our very own hometown favorite, the University of Michigan, and have since gone on to win critical acclaim and have swiftly become a fan favorite in the Broadway community.

Tonight (May 17, 2022), Zachary Noah Piser, will step into the of ‘Evan Hansen’ on Broadway in Dear Evan Hansen, the Tony, Grammy and Oliver Award-winning musical. Piser, who has been part of the Dear Evan Hansen family since March 2019 and was most recently the ‘Evan’ alternate on Broadway, becomes the first Asian American actor to play the role full-time.

Dear Evan Hansen reopens at the Noël Coward Theatre on 26 October 2021 and is currently booking to 13 February 2022.

The Times Square Alliance unveiled today the first holiday “Show Globes” in Times Square on the Broadway Plaza between 44th and 45th Streets. The event included remarks by the Alliance President, Tim Tompkins as well as representatives from each of the four Broadway shows. “Show Globes” will be on display in Times Square through December 26, 2019.

Last night LOVEVILLE HIGH: A PROM IN NINE MUSICAL PODCASTS celebrated the release of the entire season with a 'Loveville Prom - In Concert' at the York Theatre Company.

BroadwayWorld has a first look at the Toronto company of DEAR EVAN HANSEN! The cast includes Robert Markus as 'Evan Hansen', Stephanie La Rochelle as 'Zoe Murphy', Jessica Sherman as 'Heidi Hansen', Claire Rankin as 'Cynthia Murphy', Evan Buliung as 'Larry Murphy', Sean Patrick Dolan as 'Connor Murphy', Alessandro Costantini as 'Jared Kleinman', and Shakura Dickson as 'Alana Beck', along with Zachary Noah Piser as the 'Evan' alternate and understudies Erin Breen, Malinda Carroll, Jay Davis, David Jeffery, Laura Mae Nason, Kaitlyn Santa Juana and Josh Strobl.

Just yesterday, the American Theatre Wing presented the 2019 Jonathan Larson Grants to Julia Gytri & Avi Amon (book, music and lyrics), Emily Gardner Xu Hall (book, music and lyrics), Andy Roninson (music and lyrics), and Ben Wexler (music and lyrics). Four prestigious grants of $10,000 each, as well as additional support in the form of residencies, concerts, and recording grants, totaling over $50,000, were presented at a private event at the WNYC Greene Space. 

Musicals come in different forms. Musical comedies, such as 'Cinderella' and 'School of Rock' intend to entertain. Musical dramas--think 'Dear Evan Hansen,' 'Come From Away,' and 'Hamilton,' relay thoughtful ideas in words, song and dance. The musical tragedy, such as 'Sweeney Todd' and 'The Kiss Of The Spider Woman,' which is now on stage at Blank Canvas, finds a 'victim' in a society which doesn't understand or appreciate them, resulting in dire consequences.

A new Evan is waving through a window at the Music Box Theatre! As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Andrew Barth Feldman, the 16-year-old winner of the Best Actor Award at the 2018 National High School Musical Theatre Awards (known more commonly as the Jimmy Awards), just made his Broadway debut as 'Evan Hansen' last night, January 30, 2019. Last year I posted an article on my website about the top 10 shows I was the most excited for that would be in the Twin Cities across the 2018-2019 season. Some of them premiered in 2018 like Mamma Mia at the Ordway and, of course, the traveling production of Hamilton. However, as I look back at the least, a large majority of them are in 2019 and I'm still just as excited to see these productions as I was last year when I posted about them. Below are 9 shows that I can't wait to see in 2019!

Yesterday, Dear Evan Hansen celebrated two years on Broadway by donating to the Smithsonian on stage. The cast and creative team were joined by Smithsonian Institution representatives, Catherine Eagleton, Associate Director of Curatorial Affairs and Ryan Lintelman, Curator of Entertainment History.
