TheatreWorks Silicon Valley kicks off its 48th season with the World Premiere of The Four Immigrants: An American Musical Manga. Drawn from one of the first ever graphic novels, set to an infectious ragtime and vaudeville score by local composer/lyricist Min Kahng, the comic musical follows four Japanese immigrants in a world of possibility and prejudice: turn-of-the-twentieth-century San Francisco. From a tumultuous earthquake to an exhilarating World's Fair, the quartet pursues the American Dream, despite limited options in the land of opportunity. Directed by TheatreWorks Associate Artistic Director Leslie Martinson, and developed at TheatreWorks' 2016 New Works Festival, the World Premiere ofThe Four Immigrants: An American Musical Manga will be presented July 12-August 6, 2017 (press opening: July 15) at Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its 2016/2017 season with the Regional Premiere of Velina Hasu Houston's international comic drama, Calligraphy. Two continents, two cultures, two estranged sisters, and two cousins determined to bridge the gap between them, are all boldly calligraphed in this free-wheeling work set in Los Angeles and Tokyo, past and present.  East and West collide as Japanese free-spirit Sayuri and biracial American Hiromi care for their feuding mothers, whom they gamely hope to reunite before it is too late. Directed by TheatreWorks Associate Artistic Director Leslie Martinson, Calligraphy will be presented by TheatreWorks Silicon Valley March 8-April 2 at Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. Laguna Playhouse Artistic Director Ann E. Wareham is thrilled to announce the third show in the Laguna Playhouse 2016-2017 season, CHAPATTI, written by Christian O'Reilly and directed by David Ellenstein, based on the direction of Judith Ivey. "I just fell in love with this play and the beautiful and quirky love story at its center.  I think our audiences are about to fall in love with it too," says Wareham.  CHAPATTI will begin previews on Wednesday, January 11; will open on Sunday, January 15 at 5:30pm and will run through Sunday, January 29, 2016 at the Laguna Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach.

Main Street Theater takes on the work of by Donald Margulies for the first time with its production of Time Stands Still, the latest by the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright. With previews March 22, 23, and 26, Time Stands Still opens March 27 and runs through April 19 at Main Street Theater - Rice Village, 2540 Times Blvd. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

Today, we remember those within the entertainment industry that we lost in 2013.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, popular and influential songwriter and guitarist Lou Reed, most known for forming Velvet Underground has died at 71 according to Rolling Stone. No cause of death was revealed, but it's been noticed that the performer received a liver transplant back in May of 2013. BroadwayWorld remembers Reed with photos below.

Chance Theater presents the fourth show of its 15th Anniversary Season - the Tony nominated drama Time Stands Still by renowned playwright Donald Margulies, and directed by Marya Mazor. Milwaukee Chamber Theatre (MCT) presents COLLECTED STORIES by Donald Margulies, now through December 16, 2012, in collaboration with Forward Theater Company of Madison. In COLLECTED STORIES two strong-willed writers from dramatically different backgrounds struggle with success. MCT has also produced Margulies' plays BROOKLYN BOY (2009) and his Pulitzer Prize-winner DINNER WITH FRIENDS (2003). Everyman Theatre's 22nd season opener, Time Stands Still by Donald Margulies, is one of the final two shows that will be produced at Everyman's Charles Street home this Fall. In January, 2013, Everyman Theatre will be making an historic move to its brand new theatre located downtown on Fayette Street. Critically acclaimed in New York, Time Stands Still was nominated for a Tony for Best Play in 2010. Off-Broadway's The New Group presents Burning, written by Thomas Bradshaw and directed by Scott Elliott, kicking off the company's 2011-12 Season. The production officially opens on Monday, November 14 at 7:00 PM. Burning plays a limited engagement through December 17 at The New Group @ Theatre Row (The Acorn Theatre, 410 West 42nd Street).

Jordan Roth, President of Jujamcyn Theaters, launched a new season of his multi-evening conversation series, 'Broadway Talks,' at the 92nd Street Y with Grammy Award-winning vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Tony Award-winning Director Michael Mayer. Among other topics, Roth, Armstrong and Mayer discussed the current Broadway production of American Idiot, the new musical based on the landmark Green Day recording. The Drama League (Jano Herbosch, President; Gabriel Shanks, Executive Director), announced the nominations for the 2009-10 Drama League Awards today at Sardi's with the help of Broadway stars Kelsey Grammer (La Cage Aux Folles) and Bebe Neuwirth (The Addams Family). The 76th Annual Drama League Awards Ceremony and Luncheon will take place on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 12:00pm at the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square. The event will be co-hosted by Vanessa Williams (Sondheim on Sondheim) and Michael Urie (The Temperamentals).

Manhattan Theatre Club's New York premiere of NIGHTINGALE, the new play written and performed by Lynn Redgrave and directed by Joseph Hardy, opened last night, Tuesday, November 3 opening at MTC at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street). Pulitzer Prize-nominated play about two women writers at opposite stages of their careers is one of SCR?s best-known commissions and has achieved worldwide success. Directed by Artistic Director Martin Benson, Collected Stories will run from May 15 through June 14, 2009 on the Segerstrom Stage. Low-priced previews are available from May 15 through May 21.
