Hell in a Handbag Productions is concluding its 21st season with the world premiere musical parody Murder, ReWrote, playing August 10 – September 16, 2023 at The Den Theatre (Upstairs Mainstage) in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. 'Feathers of Fire: A Persian Epic' is a visually breathtaking cinematic shadow play for all ages, created and directed by Hamid Rahmanian, a 2014 Guggenheim fellowship-winning filmmaker/visual artist. Inspired by the tenth century Persian epic 'Shahnameh' (The Book of Kings), it dramatizes the origin story from the tale with elaborate shadow puppets, multimedia and live actors. The production, which debuted at BAM in 2016 and was presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art the same year, returns to New York next month for two days only. It will be presented by Fictionville Studio September 7 and 8 at Kaye Playhouse, 695 Park Ave. (at 68th Street), for three performances only before it travels to China and Paris.
Ahead of tomorrow's opening night, first images are released today of Samantha Barks and Jonathan Bailey in Tony Award-winning Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown's acclaimed musical The Last Five Years. Due to popular demand, the production at St. James Theatre will also extend its run by a week, and will now play until Saturday 3 December.
Paper Mill Playhouse concludes its 75th Anniversary Season with America's favorite musical, GREASE. With book, music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, Grease will be directed by Daniel Goldstein with original choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter. Additional songs are by John Farrar, Barry Gibb, Scott Simon and Louis St. Louis. Grease will play the Millburn, New Jersey, theater from May 28 through June 29, 2014. Vulture.com welcomed actress Stephanie J. Block and composer Jason Robert Brown for 'The Art of Songwriting' at the first Vulture Festival, a weekend of pop culture events in New York City on May 10-11. During the event, Brown spoke to New York magazine theater critic Jesse Green about composing for musicals and played and sang some of his tunes with additional vocal accompaniment by Block. Song selections included 'Falling Into You' and 'Another Life' from The Bridges of Madison County and 'Still Hurting' from The Last Five Years. Check out their appearance below!

The Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis will produce A Very Phoenix Xmas 5: Regifted as its annual alternative holiday production from November 26 through December 19, 2010. This year's 'regifted' production, conceived and directed by Phoenix Theatre Producing Director Bryan Fonseca, is truly the result of work-shopping Phoenix Xmas shows for the past four years and coming up with a 'greatest hits' selection of music, sketches, videos and dances from past shows.
On Monday, September 14th, The Marvelous Wonderettes celebrated its one-year anniversary in New York where it continues to run at Off-Broadway's Westside Theatre, upstairs (407 West 43rd Street). Written and directed by Roger Bean, The Marvelous Wonderettes features Kirsten Bracken, Misty Cotton, Christina DeCicco and Lindsay Mendez.
A new production of The Mysteries - Yiimimangaliso, the musical that has been seen by audiences of over 250,000 worldwide, will return to London for twenty five performances only at the Garrick Theatre from 11 September - 3 October, with press night on 15 September.
