The Broadway critics are weighing in for the final time of the 2023/24 season! Illinoise officially opened on Broadway earlier this week at the St. James Theatre, making it eligible for 2024 Tony Awards consideration, however reviews have been held until today, Friday, April 26. A brand-new, reimagined regional iteration of the Tony-winning 2005 musical JERSEY BOYS now at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts is exceeding all expectations. Featuring a superb ensemble cast performing The Four Seasons' greatest hits, this spectacular, high-energy, crowd-pleasing production continues through May 12, 2024.

Miko Marks has released the deluxe version of her acclaimed 2022 LP Feel Like Going Home via Red Tone Records. BlakDance will bring to Perth WA premieres of two bold works, The Other Side of Me by Gary Lang NT Dance Company (State Theatre Centre 30 April - 2 May), and SILENCE by Karul Projects at His Majesty’s Theatre (1-2 May).

I'll start my review by saying Wicked is my favorite musical of all time. I have seen it 10 times now, all in different cities, and each time left the theatre with tears in my eyes and my heart feeling a little lighter. This is the greatest example of how magical theatre can be, in my opinion. And my hopes for a beautiful production for my 10th viewing were not dashed in the slightest-- Olivia Valli and Celia Hottenstein bewitch the audience from their first moments on stage. 

Elijah Lyons, Shara Nova and Tasha Viets-VanLear will transfer to Broadway as vocalists for the musical Illinoise, the theatrical adaptation of Grammy- and Oscar-nominated Sufjan Stevens’ concept album Illinois.

Goodman Theatre Artistic Director Susan V. Booth puts her own spin on Margaret Atwood’s decidedly feminist tale THE PENELOPIAD. As with her famous novel THE HANDMAID’S TALE, Atwood uses THE PENELOPIAD as a device to convey the horrors and abuse committed against women. Atwood’s points are valid and mirror the gender inequalities and abuse women still experience now (the original novella was penned in 2005). But THE PENELOPIAD’s feminist argument isn’t revelatory. Instead of providing truly new insight or perspective, the play rather reinforces existing (though rightfully undeniable) points. 

BroadwayWorld has just learned that Illinoise, which is currently playing at Park Avenue Armory will transfer to Broadway.
