Joshua Harmon Announced as Honorary Festival Playwright of Samuel French's Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival

Samuel French’s Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival has announced that Joshua Harmon is this year’s honorary festival playwright. This year’s top 30 playwrights were chosen from over 650 submissions around the world. They will present their plays during a week-long festival August 16-20 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater in New York City.

John Lithgow is featured in a special, new audio recording released by 92Y: a reading of William Maxwell’s novel, So Long, See You Tomorrow. The novel is Lithgow’s personal favorite, and in the recording, commissioned by 92Y’s Unterberg Poetry Center, the Emmy Award-winner reads it in its entirety.

Weaver, designer, collector, gardener, author, world traveler, entrepreneur, teacher, and cultural scholar, Jack Lenor Larsen was mentor to textile connoisseurs, designers, artisans and artists throughout his eventful and gratifying 93 years. He died peacefully on the evening of December 22, 2020 of natural causes in East Hampton, New York.

San Francisco Opera Announces 2017 Adler Fellows

San Francisco Opera Center Director Sheri Greenawald today announced the thirteen recipients of the 2017 Adler Fellowship. Nine singers, three pianist/apprentice coaches and one director will take part in the program-a multi-year performance-oriented residency offering advanced young artists intensive individual training, coaching and professional seminars, as well as a wide range of performance opportunities. Adler Fellows are selected from the young artists who have participated in the Merola Opera Program. The prestigious fellowship has nurtured the development of more than 175 young artists since its inception.

Paramount Pictures, founded in 1912 as the Famous Players Film Company, is celebrating its 100th anniversary. To mark this milestone, Museum of the Moving Image will present a month-long film series, from today, June 2 through July 1, 2012, featuring sixteen films produced by Paramount during one of its greatest decades. The films will be shown in archival 35mm prints and digital restorations provided by the studio.
