A drama about an acting troupe performing a controversial play and a world premiere musical about life in Cuba past and present garnered the most nominations for the 43rd annual Carbonell Awards, which honor excellence in theater in South Florida.  Indecent, produced by Palm Beach Dramaworks in West Palm Beach, earned nine nominations, and Havana Music Hall, produced by Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables, earned seven.

Dick Robinson, a legend of the airways, hero of The Great American Songbook, and a broadcaster who in his distinguished career has interviewed anybody who is anybody in the world of music had The New York Pops music director and conductor Steven Reineke on the Legends Radio network last night. The 30 minute segment will be heard on FM Stations in South Florida, the Northeast, and worldwide on the web. 'The Old Jock' (as he is reverently and affectionately referred to) discussed the exciting world of Carnegie Hall, The New York Pops and Maestro Reineke's fascinating and creative life which includes conducting and programming 4 major orchestras.

The audience at Cafe Centro got a little confused last night and thought New Years Eve was still being celebrated during the Rob & Michael music night at the popular South Florida restaurant/cabaret. In addition to the suave Mr. Russell and pianist/entertainer Masci the Broadway/Cabaret star Avery Sommers and famed Concert and Cabaret artist Anthony Nunziata happened to be in the audience and wound up 'singing for their dinner'

Jim Caruso And Billy Stritch Return To Birdland Theater Sundays In February

Birdland mainstays Jim Caruso & Billy Stritch return to Birdland Theater with 'The Sunday Set,' an evening of swinging standards Sundays, February 3, 10 and 17, with shows at 7:30pm. Bassist Steve Doyle will join the duo. Caruso and Stritch, who have performed extensively on their own, gained national exposure together as the host and musical director of the wildly popular open mic, Cast Party, which celebrates talent every Monday at Birdland in NYC, and tours nationally. The duo has also received critical acclaim during their seven years at Bemelmans at The Carlyle Hotel, and made international news when rock legend Bono joined them in an impromptu performance. The musical pair has also become the darlings of the show biz set, welcoming spontaneous performances by stars including Liza Minnelli, Michael Feinstein, Jane Monheit, Clint Holmes, Marilyn Maye, Stephanie J. Block, Steve Ross, Linda Lavin, Darren Criss, Luann de Lesseps, Laura Osnes, Liliane Montevecchi, Christine Ebersole, and Steve Tyrell.

The silent auction item at The New York Pops annual gala/concert held at Carnegie Hall and the Mandarin Hotel in April, offered a pianist to play at your private party complete with catering by Trattoria del Arte. The Pops Concert and Gala's proceeds help finance The Pops/Ed Programs. For the third year, the winning bidder got much more than she bargained for. Not only did the advertised pianist (Stephen Sorokoff) appear, but also a slew of New York's must celebrated keyboard artists and entertainers joined the festivities.

Broadway and cabaret star Avery Sommers has joined the Honorary Board of Advisors for The Society for the Preservation of the Great American Songbook, a non-profit founded by broadcasting legend Dick Robinson to keep this great music playing through its Young Artist Mentorship Program and radio and television shows that provide songbook lovers around the world with free, unfettered access to the music they cherish.

This intimate opportunity to share a few hours with Jupiter's favorite son and America's favorite Bandit will be presented on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 7:30 pm at the Eissey Campus Theatre in Palm Beach Gardens. Hollywood Legend Burt Reynolds will answer questions from the audience, speak about his career, and show film clips from some of his 200+ movies. He will also share personal insights and a few "dare to tell" escapades known only to his closest friends. Reynolds, named the top box office draw for five consecutive years by The National Association of Theatre Owners, was an Oscar nominee, a two-time Golden Globe winner, and the recipient of the People's Choice Award for six straight years.
