BWW Review: A UNIQUE TALE THAT HIGHLIGHTS THE AFFECTS OF ABUSE - THE RESCUED at The ROAD Theatre Company
by Valerie-Jean Miller - Sep 28, 2018

Quite the novel way to expose the damages of abuse. It is both sad and funny as the Cast of THE RESCUED plays out an afternoon at a certain dwelling and backyard on a street in Anytown, USA. Julia Marie Myatt, the Playwright, has crafted a different way of viewing how verbal, physical and mental abuse can affect someone their entire lives, and yet as these characters begin to share their backgrounds and stories with each other, it begins to help them heal and deal with the disappointments and tragedies of life and find contentment and acceptance in the present.

BWW Review: THE BLADE OF JEALOUSY Cuts Deeply Into the Superficial Life We Lead in Los Angeles
by Shari Barrett - Aug 10, 2018

Playwright Henry Ong admits that when he stumbled upon Tirso de Molina's "La celosa de si misma" (Jealous of Herself) during the Playwrights' Arena (PA) for the Golden Tongues series to introduce audiences to the treasures of the Golden Age of Spanish theater between 1590 to 1681, a PA-partnership with UCLA William Andrews Clark Memorial Library, he discovered an ingenious tale of deceit and deception with fascinating characters and relentless wit. The tale of self-image, identity, and the idea of physical perfection as hoisted upon us in the media immediately presented Ong with the opportunity to set his modern adaptation THE BLADE OF JEALOUSY in Los Angeles, a place where so many of us become dissatisfied with what nature has given us and how the media says we should look causes people to continually crave and seek to attain idealized versions of our physical selves in order to gain love.

BWW Review: FREUD'S LAST SESSION - Verbal Sparring At Its Apex
by Gil Kaan - Jan 15, 2018

In FREUD'S LAST SESSION, playwright Mark St. Germain has written an intricate, very detailed script of what he imagines as a chance meeting between Dr. Sigmund Freud and C. S. Lewis. Set in 1939 London the day England entered World War II, the two very well-read men debate on the existence of God. Watching Martin Rayner as Freud and Martyn Stanbridge as Lewis butt heads in their reasonings of the existence/non-existence of God is much like watching a Wimbleton Tennis Final.
