Tim Firth BIO

Tim Firth is a British playwright, screenwriter, and composer, born on September 10, 1964, in Wirral, Merseyside, England. He is best known for his work on the stage and screen, including his Tony-nominated musical, The Girls, and the hit film, Calendar Girls.
Firth began his career as a writer in the 1990s, penning episodes for popular British television shows, such as The Bill and Emmerdale. He later transitioned to writing for the stage, and in 1998, he co-wrote the play, Neville's Island, which premiered at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
In 2003, Firth wrote the screenplay for the film, Calendar Girls, which was based on a true story about a group of middle-aged women who posed nude for a charity calendar. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $96 million worldwide and earning Firth a BAFTA nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
Firth's success with Calendar Girls led to more opportunities in the film industry. He went on to write the screenplays for Kinky Boots (2005), starring Joel Edgerton and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009), starring Isla Fisher.
Despite his success in film, Firth remained committed to the stage. In 2008, he wrote the book for the musical, The Girls, which was based on the same true story that inspired Calendar Girls. The Girls premiered at the Phoenix Theatre in London's West End in 2017, and was nominated for three Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical and Best Actress in a Musical for Joanna Riding.
In addition to his work as a writer, Firth has also composed music for the stage. He wrote the music and lyrics for the 2009 musical, This Is My Family, which premiered at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The show was later revived at the National Theatre in London in 2013, and was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
Firth's most recent work includes the book and lyrics for the musical, The Band, which premiered at the Manchester Opera House in 2017. The show, which features the music of the popular British band, Take That, follows a group of teenage girls who idolize the band and reunite years later to see them perform. The Band went on to have a successful UK tour, and was nominated for five Whatsonstage Awards, including Best New Musical.
