Sheldon Raymore BIO

Sheldon Raymore is a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Nation. He's a multidisciplinary performance artist, Actor, Choreographer, Cultural Consultant, Costume Designer, Fashion Designer, Producer of the PrEPahHontoz Tipi Project, and an award -winning Grass Dancer. Recently he starred in the legendary Muriel Miguel of Spiderwoman Theater's show "Fear of Oatmeal" (2018) at Theater for the New City. The New York City Native is touring with Ibex Puppetry's "Ajijaak on Turtle Island" theatre production (2019) at The New Victory Theater. Sheldon designed all the costumes in Safe Harbors Indigenous Collective of La Mama's show "Don't Feed The Indians" in (2017). Captivating and moving, Sheldon also starred in ABC’s Born to Explore, “Legend of Dance” with Richard Weiss, where he was the featured grass dancer at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian. Sheldon's brilliant technique and spellbinding execution prompted New York's Indigenous Based Theater Company Eagle Project, to recruit the visionary to work his magic and Co-choreograph Eagle Project's (2015) production of "Trail of Tears", at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. Bringing both Native and Non-Native audience members to their feet every evening with tears in their eyes. The Sioux performer was also awarded the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Community Arts Fund "2015 Performance Art" Grant. Ever the consummate keeper of tradition, he continues to cultivate his artistry, with the upmost integrity, humility, and authenticity, letting the love for his culture shine through in all that he does.

Visionary puppet artist Heather Henson and Grammy-Award winner Ty Defoe (Come to Me Great Mystery) bring together an ensemble of North American First Nations Peoples in this compelling production produced by IBEX Puppetry, written by Defoe (Straight White Men) with music by Kevin Tarrant (SilverCloud Singers), Grammy-nominated Dawn Avery, Grammy winner Larry Mitchell (Totemic Flute Chants) and Defoe. Ajijaak on Turtle Island, currently on tour throughout the U.S., performs at The New Victory from March 1 - 10, 2019.

Puppet Artist Heather Henson Announces Tour Of AJIJAAK ON TURTLE ISLAND


Visionary puppet artist Heather Henson announced today IBEX Puppetry's upcoming four-city national tour of Ajijaak on Turtle Island. Co-directed by Grammy Award winner Ty Defoe and Henson, the daughter of legendary puppeteer Jim Henson, the tour launches by opening the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival with performances January 17 through January 20, and follows with performances in Baraboo, WI at the Al. Ringling Theatre (January 24-25); FirstWorks Frontier Series in Providence, RI (January 31-February 1); and New York, NY at The New Victory Theater (March 1-10).
