The Top 10 Productions in St. Louis Theatre for 2023

This past year was a spectacular season for theatre in St. Louis. Forbes magazine recognized St. Louis as having “America’s most exciting emerging arts district.” The article credits the The Kranzberg Foundation for buying and operating spaces where artists can create. Many of the smaller theatre companies in St. Louis rely on The Kranzberg Foundation venues for performance and rehearsal space. In addition to the smaller professional companies, the mid-size and larger companies including The Muny, STAGES St. Louis, and The Black Rep all presented stellar musicals and plays that were produced locally. Blue Strawberry and The St Louis Cabaret project advanced cabaret performing in St. Louis booking amazing shows with Tony nominated Broadway performers Adam Pascal, Beth Leavel, and Robin de Jesús.

HBO Max has renewed the original drama PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: ORIGINAL SIN for a second season. The series was co-created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring. The cast includes Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Zaria, Malia Pyles, Maia Reficco, Mallory Bechtel, Sharon Leal, Elena Goode, Eric Johnson, Alex Aiono and Lea Salonga.

New Play Reading Series A PLACE AT THE TABLE Announced

On August 4th, 2019, the new play reading series, A Place at the Table, held its first reading featuring an all womxn cast of Arthur Miller's 1964 play, Incident at Vichy. On February 18, Manhattan Concert Productions will present a concert performance of Frank Wildhorn and Nan Knighton's musical comedy The Scarlet Pimpernel at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center. Gabriel Barre (Stage Director) and Jason Howland (Music Director) reunite to lead the cast and creative team in this concert performance of The Scarlet Pimpernel. The performance will feature a chorus of over 200 singers from the across the United States, a professional cast and creative team, and the New York City Chamber Orchestra.

On June 15, 2018, Sing For Your Seniors hosted the latest in its series of Broadway Sessions with cast members from "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" at the Edie Windsor SAGE Center in Chelsea as part of Pride Month. SAGE is the country's largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBT older adults. The musical performance included songs of the performers' choosing as well of songs from "Beautiful." The audience enjoyed a one-hour session, as well as a meet-and-greet visit with the cast following the performance.

Marlene King will expand the universe of “Pretty Little Liars” for Freeform with a 10-episode series order for “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists,” featuring returning fan favorites Sasha Pieterse as Alison and Janel Parrish as Mona, and starring Sofia Carson (Disney's “Descendants”) as Ava. The drama also welcomes Sydney Park (“The Walking Dead”) as Caitlin, newcomer Eli Brown as Dylan, Graeme Thomas King (“The Widow”) as Jeremy, Kelly Rutherford (“Gossip Girl”) as Claire, and Hayley Erin (“General Hospital”) in an undisclosed role.
