A documentary celebrating the hospitality, heroism and humanity of a small Canadian town on 9/11, You Are Here, is influenced by the same events that inspired the hit Broadway musical Come From Away.

Thirteen of the real-life inspirations behind Broadway hit musical Come From Away arrive in Melbourne tonight ahead of its premiere at the Comedy Theatre on Saturday 20 July, including former Mayors of Gander and Appleton, Claude Elliot and Derm Flynn; the first female captain for American Airlines, Beverley Bass; and Gander Police Chief, Oz Fudge.

Most of the people who read this article will know what Iowa Nice is if they heard it, but I would wager that most of those same people who not know what Gander Nice is. This is going to change soon as 'Come From Away,' by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, is coming to Des Moines as part of Des Moines Performing Arts 2019-2020 Willis Broadway Series. I have been following this show for a few years, watching it become the hit that it is, and couldn't wait to see it when it comes to Des Moines January 28-February 2, 2020. So this last weekend, I traveled to Omaha to see 'Come From Away.' And I was not disappointed.

Currently a welcome, much-lauded presence in each city it visits, the top-notch first national tour of the multi-award-winning 2017 Broadway musical COME FROM AWAY---currently enchanting audiences at OC's Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through February 17---is just the kind of timely show our splintered nation needs to experience right now: a heartwarming, winningly-presented collection of true stories that showcase the unvarnished beauty of human kindness and, ultimately, the absolute best examples of selflessness and generosity that seem rare these days. For the Toronto company of Come From Away, their return to Newfoundland this week is a homecoming of sorts - bringing back to the island the musical that tells the stories of those who were stranded there, and the Canadians who took them in, following the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001. For the first time since the original TorontoBroadway company performed the musical in concert for the town of Gander - the musical has returned to 'the rock,' this time for a week of performances in St. John's, Newfoundland at the Holy Heart Theatre.

Spectrum News NY1's On Stage will give viewers an in-depth look at the newest hit to take the Broadway stage in a special show dedicated entirely to the musical, 'Come From Away', to air on Saturday, March 25 at 9:30 a.m.
