Sherlock Holmes is one of literature’s most well-known characters. Through the years, many people have tried to adapt Holmes to different time periods and situations. But none that I have come across have done so as successfully as Christopher M. Walsh does in MISS HOLMES RETURNS, now playing at the Greater Boston Stage Company through May 8th.

Greater Boston Stage Company will present Miss Holmes Returns directed by Weylin Symes, a theatrical “fan fiction” that expands on the feminist themes of Miss Holmes, using the characters, settings, and tropes created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Greater Boston Stage Company will return to the stage this year with Season 22. The 2021 – 2022 Season will include a World Premiere, a New England Premiere, a comic adaptation of a classic thriller, an a cappella holiday musical, and something so special it's TBA! 

David Valdes has seen the future and it doesn't look good. Producing Artistic Director Emeritus Spiro Veloudos is in the director's chair for AGATHA CHRISTIE'S MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS and stages Ken Ludwig's adaptation with distinct shadings of film noir and a who's who of Lyric Stage Company veterans (and a couple of newbies) on board to play the rogue's gallery of characters. If you already know whodunnit, the fresh take on telling the story will be worth the fare, and if you don't know who commits the dastardly deed, you're in for more than a few juicy surprises.

Praxis Stage's Coriolanus is punk. It is metal. It is what too many theaters in Boston try to be and it succeeds in ways that should have the rest of the theatre community taking notes (or at least scrambling for tickets to their next production). Coriolanus is a late Shakespearean tragedy  that follows the downfall of a Roman warrior whose aggressive nature and volatile temperament make him an unfit political leader. The show is a success because of the evidently uninhibited passions of the artists involved and the ability of the co-directors, Audrey Seraphin and Daniel Boudreau, to effectively act in accordance with their purported philosophies and priorities.

Greater Boston Stage Company announces its sixth production of the Mainstage season. In March, the Giving Voice Foundation Trust Drama Series play, The Moors, takes the stage.

The Bostonian Society announces the return of Cato & Dolly to the Old State House, performing three times daily from June 17 - August 11. This original 20-minute play was written by Patrick Gabridge as part of the Through the Keyhole exhibition, and explores life behind the door of Governor John Hancock's 18th century home. Admission to the play and the exhibition are included in the cost of entry to the Old State House museum.

Greater Boston Stage Company celebrates its 20th Anniversary Season with two World Premieres, an adaptation of a beloved holiday classic, a hit Broadway musical, and a musical collaboration with Front Porch Arts Collective.

What does God want, and who truly knows? Who gets to decide what is right? These are just a couple of the questions raised in Hansol Jung's wrenching new play, CARDBOARD PIANO, in its New England premiere at New Repertory Theatre. Set in Northern Uganda at the turn of the millennium, a forbidden love story unfolds with the backdrop of rising civil unrest, setting in motion a series of events that spans fifteen years in the lives of the principals who survive the violence and hostility that is endemic to the African nation. Directed by Benny Sato Ambush with a quartet of outstanding performances from Marge Dunn, Rachel Cognata, Michael Ofori, and Marc Pierre.

The Young Company Winter Festival, performed by actors in grades 1-12, is the culmination of 8 weeks of rehearsals by the students and their professional directors, music directors, choreographers, stage managers, and design team. The Bostonian Society announces the world premiere of Cato and Dolly, an all-new live play by Playwright Patrick Gabridge at Boston's historic Old State House, running Friday, July 6 - September 29, 2018. The new play, commissioned specifically for the Old State House's Through the Keyhole exhibition, reveals life behind the door of the Hancock House, Governor John Hancock's 18th century Beacon Hill home. In addition to viewing the historic door itself, on public view for the first time in decades, visitors to Through the Keyhole will experience the new 20-minute play which offers a glimpse of everyday life behind the Hancock door through the eyes of those who lived there: Cato Hancock, an enslaved person in the Hancock household and Dolly Hancock, John Hancock's wife and First Lady of Massachusetts. Gabridge's powerful site-specific play at the Old State House, Blood On The Snow, had a sold-out run in 2016-2017 and was called "electric and alive" by WGBH's Jared Bowen.

On Monday, June 4, Wellesley Repertory Theatre (WRT) will host a special performance at 7pm to honor those who have served with free tickets for veterans.
