Capital Stage presents its annual new works festival PLAYWRIGHTS' REVOLUTION, a series of staged readings of new plays. As Sacramento's leader of bold, thought-provoking theatre, Capital Stage created PLAYWRIGHTS' REVOLUTION, to identify and develop new plays and playwrights.

Mothers and Sons, by 4-time Tony winner Terrence McNally, is a provocative study on guilt, AIDS and familial structure set almost 30 years after the beginning of the American AIDS epidemic. We get to witness all of the pain, fear, shame and frustration of the gay community from the safety of our theatre seats in a time when an AIDS diagnosis is not an immediate death sentence. It is easy, now, to look back and scream with indignation that not enough was done. We say that the administration didn't care about the marginalized members of society. Well, we must be always vigilant, lest history repeat itself.

Sierra Repertory Theatre is proud to present one of Tennessee Williams most highly regarded plays, The Glass Menagerie. It has been, and still is 'must see theatre.' This is a compelling story of an overbearing mother, her resentful son, her fragile daughter and the unsuspecting gentleman caller. Deeply complex themes of duty, love, abandonment, and self-deception are on high display here. What happens to a family when the dreams of one clash with the dreams of another?

California Stage will bring 4 provocative plays to Sacramento audiences throughout 2014. The theatre will open its 23rd season with the world premiere of Nelda Roberts' captivating new drama The Vanishing Point, followed by RC Sherriff's Journey's End, Peter Weiss' Marat/Sade, and Rick Foster's Love Isadora.

Charlie Rose, acclaimed broadcast journalist and interviewer, has been selected as the 2014 recipient of the Fourth Estate Award, the National Press Club's most-honored prize.
