Playwrights Horizons Unveils New Initiatives to Compensate Writers

Playwrights Horizons today announced several major initiatives that will expand the ways in which theater writers are compensated. As a writer's theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary American playwrights, composers and lyricists and to the production of their new work, Playwrights Horizons is committed to establishing new standards in compensation that will directly benefit all of its writers and taking a leadership position in responding to the reality that theater writers are among the lowest-compensated creative artists in America.

Tonight, April 23, 2012, Theatre Communications Group (TCG) will celebrate its 50th anniversary at a gala honoring Kenny Leon, Judith O. Rubin, and The Shubert Foundation, at Espace (635 West 42nd Street between 11th and 12th avenues).

The Castillo Theatre will hold its 2011 annual gala benefit entitled, WOMEN ONSTAGE, on Monday, November 7th at the All Stars Project, 543 West 42nd Street (between 10th & 11th Avenue) at 6:30 p.m. The gala will recognize and honor four inspirational women of the theatre. Carmen de Lavallade, Gabrielle L. Kurlander, Judith Malina, and Daphne Rubin-Vega have all lived lives of outstanding artistic achievement and have used their achievements to inspire others.

Photo Coverage: 'Go Back To Where You Are' Meets the Press

Playwrights Horizons will present the World Premiere of GO BACK TO WHERE YOU ARE, a new play by five-time Obie Award winner David Greenspan. Directed by Leigh Silverman, the production will begin previews Thursday, March 24 at 7:30 PM. With an Opening Night set for Tuesday, April 12 at 7PM, the limited engagement will play through Sunday, May 1 at Playwrights Horizons' Peter Jay Sharp Theater (416 West 42nd Street).
