Lakewood Theatre Company closes out its 66th season with the triumphant movie musical Singin' In the Rain, tapping its way from the cinema to the Headlee Mainstage. Come to Lakewood Theatre Company to see brand new theatre works premiered through the Fertile Ground Festival in January 23 February 3, 2019. This year Lakewood will premiere four new works. Fertile Ground, a Portland-wide festival that involves local theatres, artists, and playwrights, aspires to increase the appreciation for Portland's lush creative culture, the artists and projects spawned right here in our native soil. Fertile Ground is put on by the Portland Area Theatre Alliance, a nonprofit volunteer organization in collaboration with local nonprofit theatres.

Performances continue on December 15, 16, 17 and 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23 at 7:30 PM. There will also be matinee performances at 2:00 PM on Saturday Dec. 16, Sunday Dec. 17 and Saturday, Dec. 23. Olivier and Tony Award-winning actor, Ian McDiarmid will play MP Enoch Powell in Chris Hannan's searing play, What Shadows. Directed by Roxana Silbert (Artistic Director, Birmingham Repertory Theatre), What Shadows tells the story of Powell's explosive Rivers of Blood speech, bringing to life the community that inspired it and, 30 years later, its effects on a woman trying to make sense of her life.
