On Sunday, June 16, Washington, D.C.'s theatre community gathered to celebrate the end of MICHAEL KAHN's 33-year tenure as Artistic Director of Shakespeare Theatre Company with musical and dramatic performances, special guests from the worlds of entertainment, politics, and media, and a mayoral proclamation.

Suzi Bass Awards Announce 2016 Nominees


The Suzi Bass Awards revealed nominations for the 2015-2016 Atlanta professional theatre season on Monday evening, September 12, to patrons and industry artists. The Suzi Nomination Party was generously hosted by the Alliance Theatre, at 6:30pm in The Circle Room, on the third floor, 1280 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, Georgia, 30309.

Canongate to Publish THE CONFIDENCE GAME by Maria Konnikova


Canongate is to publish a new psychological investigation into the con by New York Times bestselling psychologist Maria Konnikova. UK and Commonwealth rights were acquired in The Confidence Game: The Psychology of the Con and Why We Fall For It Every Time by Senior Editor Jenny Lord from Kate McLennan at Abner Stein on behalf of The Gernert Company. Canongate will publish in trade paperback in January 2016.

Shakespeare Theatre Company to Launch 2015-16 Directors' Studio


In an effort to continue its vision to provide a training ground for the next generation of theatre artists, the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) has launched its first-ever Directors' Studio, a series of workshops and discussions designed to investigate the craft of theatrical direction created for local, early-career directors. By application, six directors have been selected for the 2015-2016 season's Directors' Studio: Catrin Rowenna Davies, Rick Hammerly, Lee Liebeskind, Carter Lowe, Angela Kay Pirko, and Jason Schlasfstein.

Documentary theater possesses a unique ability to respond to issues of pressing political import and social justice, and provides a platform and voice for the dispossessed. "Theater of the Voiceless" - an international symposium and festival produced by Zeitgeist DC (Austrian Cultural Forum Washington, Goethe-Institut Washington and the Embassy of Switzerland) and the Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics at Georgetown University - takes place June 16 - 19, 2013 at various venues around Washington, DC.

Shakespeare Theatre Presents 'Hero/Traitor Repertory' with CORIOLANUS and WALLENSTEIN, Now thru 6/2


The Shakespeare Theatre Company, recipient of the 2012 Regional Theatre Tony Award, probes the burdens of leadership and the price of power in its Hero/Traitor Repertory of Coriolanus and Wallenstein. In the hands of The Studio Theatre's Artistic Director David Muse and STC's Artistic Director Michael Kahn, this pairing of Shakespearean and German epics challenges the concept of control among military and government institutions. Coriolanus and Wallenstein play at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW) from tonight, March 28-June 2, 2013.

STC Announces 2013-2014 Season


Michael Kahn, Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Theatre Company, which received the 2012 Regional Theatre Tony Award, announces the Company's 2013-2014 Season. The season will include the continuation of the Clarice Smith Repertory Series with Shakespeare's Henry IV, Parts 1 and 2. In addition to the Repertory are Shakespeare's compelling work Measure for Measure, Oscar Wilde's famous comedy The Importance of Being Earnest and Noel Coward's intimate Private Lives.
