Sound Theatre is thrilled to present the world premiere of AUTOCORRECT THINKS I’M DEAD by Deaf playwright Aimee Chou. Howie Seago will direct.

Over the years, Dear Readers, I've seen many productions of Shakespeare's oft-produced tragedy 'Romeo + Juliet'. So many productions from so many levels of professionalism with so many different takes on how to tell the story. And to be honest, only one of them even came close to bringing the story of the star-crossed lovers to life. That is until now. ACT's current production with its vibrant staging and top-notch cast incorporating Deaf and hearing actors using American Sign Language in conjunction with the Shakespearean text has created a new standard by which all other R+J's must be judged from here on.

Theatre Puget Sound (TPS) and the Gregory Awards announce today that brothers Billy and Howie Seago will be recognized for their contributions to the Seattle theatre community.

Sound Theatre Company continues their 2018 season The Human Family: Towards a Radical Inclusion with a groundbreaking play reading series.  ILLUMINATE: Six Plays by Deaf and Disabled Playwrights invites Seattle area audiences and artists to experience diverse and authentic representation in these six imaginative and unique plays.  The readings are free and open to the public, and will be presented July 12 - 22 at the Center Theatre Black Box.  Each play will have at least one ASL interpreted performance.  

Finally! In collaboration with Deaf Spotlight Presents, Sound Theatre Company has produced a bilingual "A Midsummer Night's Dream" with English and American Sign Language. This performance, now at 12th Avenue Arts, may have a streamlined aesthetic, but the incorporation of ASL makes the original Shakespearean spoken language even more poetic.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival has unveiled its June/July Summer Festival Noons schedule, which features a wide variety of opportunities to engage on a deeper level with the OSF company and the works on our stages, six days a week.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival invites audiences to "be our guest" for a Falstaffian romp through merry old Windsor; a heroic, Homeric journey home to Ithaka; and a revelatory musical journey of self-discovery when its outdoor theatre opens the weekend of June 16-18. The Allen Elizabethan Theatre will feature The Merry Wives of Windsor, directed by Dawn Monique Williams; The Odyssey, adapted and directed by Mary Zimmerman; and Disney's Beauty and the Beast, directed by Eric Tucker. Previews begin June 6, and all three shows will run through the weekend of October 13-15.

Broadway-bound new musical, Come From Away, presented by Seattle Repertory Theatre, wins four Gypsys, tying with another new musical, Lizard Boy, also produced by Seattle Repertory Theatreand also with four Gypsys, a company that has been known for years as a powerhouse dramatic straight-play playhouse! 

Seattle Theater Writers critics' circle is pleased to present the nomination slate of the fifth annual Gypsy Rose Lee Awards, theater awards devoted to recognizing excellence across the economic spectrum of professional Seattle theaters in the prior calendar year.

As hearing people we may think that the advancement and availability of cochlear implants would be welcomed with open arms by the deaf community. But what Don Nguyen's play "Sound", getting its world premiere production from Azeotrope at ACT, points out to us, the cultural effects of suddenly being able to hear can be far greater than the medical ones. But while the plight of those in the story was impactful I didn't feel the play itself offered much in the way of a resolution and thereby much of a message.

The 'Song of Purple Summer' might be heard - and seen - once more on Broadway.

BroadwayWorld.com has learned that the highly-acclaimed production of SPRING AWAKENING currently running through June 14 at Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts is in active talks for a transfer to New York City after the show's West Coast run.

Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts ('The Wallis'), Deaf West Theatre and Cody Lassen announce Deaf West Theatre's innovative new production of Spring Awakening has been extended for six additional performances through June 14.  This eight-time, Tony Award-winning Best Musical is performed simultaneously in American Sign Language and spoken English by a cast of 27.  The production has been playing to sold out audiences and critical acclaim since its opening last week.

Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts ('The Wallis'), Deaf West Theatre and Cody Lassen present Deaf West Theatre's innovative new production of the eight-time, Tony Award-winning Best Musical Spring Awakening, opening May 28. This production is performed simultaneously in American Sign Language and spoken English by a cast of 27 for a limited engagement through Sunday, June 7, 2015 in the Bram Goldsmith Theater.
