Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Rodgers and Hammmerstein's Cinderella on Friday, November 29, 2019 at the November Theatre/Arenstein Stage, 114 West Broad Street. The show will run through Sunday, January 5, 2020. One Preview performance will be on Wednesday, November 27, 2019.

Richmond Triangle Players announces a two-week extension to the run of the musical Grey Gardens, which opened Friday June 14, 2019. The production will now run through Saturday, July 27, instead of the original closing date of July 13.

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Sister Act on Friday, November 16, 2018 at the November Theatre/Arenstein Stage, 114 West Broad Street. The show will run through Sunday, January 6, 2019.  Previews will be on Wednesday, November 14 and Thursday, November 15, 2018. With music by Alan Menken, book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, lyrics by Glenn Slater and additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane, this uplifting musical comedy is based on the hit 1992 movie starring Whoopi Goldberg.

Richmond Triangle Players opens its 2018-19 Season with a new musical revue based around the work of the most heralded and influential theatrical composer of the last 60 years, Sondheim on Sondheim.  The production opens Friday, August 10, 2018 at 8 pm, following a two low-priced previews on Wednesday and Thursday August 8 and 9 at 8 pm. 

True to their slogan 'Theatre Beyond Boundaries,' director Lucian Restivo and the personnel at 5th Wall have executed (pun intended) a distinctly immersive theatrical gambit with pulverizing marks. By staging Murder Ballad entirely within the confines of the main room at Club Infuzion in Scott's Addition (as per the original Off-Broadway production's cue to venue selection), the audience is treated to a 360 degree display of four spellbinding actors belting out booming rock tunes whilst weaving around and about the respective patrons' tables and sitting areas.

Artistic Director Carol Piersol and 5th Wall Theatre are thrilled to announce their production of the intense Off-Broadway musical Murder Ballad, an edgy show that follows the exploits of protagonist Sara as she navigates the complications of a love triangle gone wrong and a past that won't leave her alone. Directed by renown local director Lucian Restivo, this show features a talented cast of Richmond performers including Katrinah Carol Lewis, Durron Tyre, Chris Hester, and Rachel Rose Gilmour, with music direction by Kim Fox. This musical, with music and lyrics by Juliana Nash and book and lyrics by Julia Jordan, was originally performed Off-Broadway at a bar venue in New York City, allowing audience members to immerse themselves in the action of the play. 5th Wall will create this same atmosphere of immersion by performing the show at local Richmond venue Club Infuzion in Scott's Addition, who is also a sponsor for this production.

IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU isn't smart and doesn't have a lot of artistic merit, but it's thoroughly entertaining and offers the kind of trivial comedy audiences need right now. The production runs through July 1 at the Robert B. Moss Theatre.

Richmond Triangle Players concludes its 24th Season with the wackiest wedding musical ever onstage, It Shoulda Been You. Virginia Repertory Theatre's DREAMGIRLS opened June 24 at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, 114 West Broad Street. The production runs through August 7, 2016. With music by Henry Krieger and lyrics and book byTom Eyen, this megawatt Broadway crowd-pleaser electrifies the stage with Motown dreams and powerhouse voices. Richmond Triangle Players hosts a one-night-only concert reading of the road-trip musical comedy Murphy's Law with book, music, and lyrics by Andy Nagraj and Jonathan Spivey on Monday, July 25 at 8 PM. This concert reading is Richmond's first - but not final - taste of the musical since the original workshop at the Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond in 2004.

While more than 30 years have passed, Virginia Repertory Theatre at Hanover Tavern's current production shows that the musical stands the test of time.
