What did our critic think of GUYS ON ICE at MILWAUKEE REPERTORY THEATER? In the Milwaukee Rep’s 25th anniversary production of Guys on Ice, heaven is a place where there’s always “a couple two-tree” Leine’s in the cooler and every day is Packers Sunday. At a glance, this hit show may feel like a precursor to that Charlie Berens brand of Midwest-focused “ya der hey” humor—and it is. It’s also more than that.

Milwaukee Rep will present the return of the funny Wisconsin favorite, Guys on Ice, celebrating its 25th anniversary of when it premiered at Milwaukee Rep.

Northern Sky Theater will launch their 2023 season with their annual fundraiser Raise the Curtain: Light the Sky on Saturday, May 27. The fundraiser will once again be held at the company's Gould Theater outdoor gathering spaces, complete with music and food around a bonfire and culminating in the evening’s performance by the Northern Sky company.

Whatever Happened to Karl Janko? tells the story of Karl Janko, who (last seen in his metallic green 1976 Cutlass Supreme) disappeared from his tiny Wisconsin hometown without a trace. Thirty-five years later, everyone in town thinks they know what happened to him—and they’re all wrong. Actors play multiple roles in this hilarious musical mystery, inspired by real-life events.

Northern Sky Theater will kick off the autumn with two more offerings in its virtual season: two live concerts, broadcast online on two consecutive weeks, featuring two of their beloved company members. It just so happens that both of these company members are named Doug.

The Third Avenue Playhouse, located in historic downtown Sturgeon Bay, announces its lineup of six plays for the upcoming 2020 season. The plays include an early career work from playwright David Mamet, a 1964 musical by the legendary composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim, a multi-award winning classic about the unlikely friendship between an elderly lady and her driver, the story of an unconventional advice columnist, and a farcical take on the making of Gone With The Wind.

Northern Sky Theater announces ticket sales and casting for the 2017 Fall Season in Door County, Wisconsin.

Tickets go on sale April 2nd for Northern Sky Theater's summer 2018 season. Casting has also been announced for the season, including BOXCAR, DAIRY HEIRS, and LUMBERJACKS IN LOVE. The three musical comedies will rotate in repertory from June 13th - August 25th at the outdoor amphitheater in Peninsula State Park. 

Under the stars in Peninsula State Park for the 2016 season, Northern Sky Theater (NST) stages their latest World Premiere, Doctor! Doctor! Milwaukee's Matt Zembrowski, who grew up sitting in the state park audiences since he was 12, dreamed  of writing a musical for the former American Folklore Theater, now Northern Sky, his entire life and this season fulfills that vision. Books, lyrics and music composed and written by Zembrowski, a considerable artistic feat, recommend the play as 'a prescription for laughter,' which the new musical delivered for opening week audiences. NST's talented acting troupe produce lighthearted laughter for an enthusiastic Door County crowd.

Every time Guys on Ice takes to the stage writer and lyricist Fred Alley's spirit soars again. Milwaukee Rep's Stackner Cabaret presents this unique musical for the holiday season directed by Northern Sky Theater Artistic Director Jeffrey Herbst and also Alley's boyhood friend. .Music Director and composer James Kaplan mans the keyboards along with Bo Johnson. Played out on the intimate cabaret stage, up close and personal for Miwlaukee audiences, Lloyd, Marvin and Ernie the Moocher revive the age old Northern Wisconsin tradition--Ice Fishing-- with several humorous and poignant 'twists.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater's Stackner Cabaret Season continues with the Midwest's favorite musical, GUYS ON ICE. Deemed a '...legendary play, featuring two fine actors' by Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, this ice-fishing odyssey returns to Milwaukee after thrilling audiences across Wisconsin and in Michigan, Oregon, California, Texas, and New York since 1998. With only a few performances remaining of Northern Sky Theater's (NST) 2015 season, their fall selection Lumberjacks in Love draws to a close. Douglas Mancheski retires the Dirty Bob shanty lumberjack he has played on and off since meeting Fred Alley in 1997. An event when Alley first discovered the actor and asked Mancheski to collaborate on the 'Little Dress' song that was immediately added to the popular NST musical. The solo song and dance continually brings smiles to audiences when Mancheski twirls in a ruffled white skirt on stage. Although Mancheski's burly lumberjack days are numbered this year, until NST's next production, he will still be a shanty boy through the holidays in Milwaukee.
