Chris Dieman BIO

Chris Dieman is an performer, composer, and musician whose multidisciplinary skills have brought him into different sectors of the theater world. He spent his undergraduate years at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts studying theatre under Broadway performers like Jeanne Lehman, Kate Forbes and Michael Potts, legendary clowning instructor Jim Calder, and Grotowski disciple Andre Baer. Since graduating, he has found his way into several lasting professional partnerships, notably as music associate of legendary composer John Kander (Cabaret, Chicago, The Visit). Chris helped Kander and his new writing partner Greg Pierce usher two of their world premieres, THE LANDING (Vineyard Theatre, starring David Hyde Pierce and Julia Murney), and KID VICTORY (Signature Theatre, Washington DC), to the stage. Chris’ work as a composer includes his one-man show PETER AND THE PIANO, the full-length musical PROHIBITED LOVE, DONE DANCING: SUITE FOR PIANO, and several scores for film and dance. As a pianist and mallet percussionist, he played a seven-country tour across Europe with a 35-piece orchestra in 2005, and still frequents jazz haunts in New York. In the theatre, He has worked with Bridget Everett, Marin Mazzie, Malcolm Gets, Judy Kaye, and director Walter Bobbie, among others. As a performer, his theater credits include Stravinsky’s THE SOLDIER’S TALE (Newport Music Festival), THE SMART SET (Cornerstone Playhouse), DICK ON DICK (Bowery Poetry Club), THE CHERRY ORCHARD (The 14th St Y), and workshops with Abrons Arts Center, Guild Hall, and New York Theater Workshop. BWW Blog: Jake Winn of Signature's KID VICTORY - Finding My Voice

'Finding My Voice' 'I still can't hear you' echoed in my head as I left rehearsal the other day. 'I still can't hear you.' Among the notes from Liesl after our first stumble-through were the repeated reminders about my volume and size. 'You're not in an independent film,' she said. Despite doing my homework, tightening my objectives, and warming up my voice: three weeks in and they still can't hear me.
