Danis Goulet's Sci-Fi FeatureNIGHT RAIDERS Begins Production


Night Raiders, an Indigenous sci-fi feature from award-winning Saskatchewan-born Cree/Métis writer/director, Danis Goulet (Wakening, Barefoot), began principal photography on October 7, 2019. The film, which marks Goulet's feature film directorial debut, stars Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers (The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open, Blood Quantum), Brooklyn Letexier-Hart (Burden of Truth), New Zealand's Alex Tarrant (Seachange, When We Go to War), Shaun Sipos (Krypton, Dark Matter) and Emmy and Tony Award-winning Amanda Plummer (Hunger Games, Pulp Fiction). Filming will continue until November 11, 2019 in Toronto and surrounding area.

Film Independent Announces 2019 Directing Lab Fellows


Film Independent announced today the five directors selected for its 19th annual Directing Lab. The Lab is an intensive eight-week program designed to support emerging independent film directors on their feature films. This year's creative advisors and guest speakers include Andrew Ahn, Ruth Atkinson, Daniel Barnz, Ava Berkofsky, Destin Cretton, Catherine Hardwicke, Tina Mabry, Alex O'Flinn, Lisa Robertson, and Emily Schweber.

Caitlin Cassidy and Nadine Malouf Collaborate on New Play in NYC


Two alumnae of the Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) are working together once again in New York City on the world premiere of LubDub Theatre Company's A Play for the Living in a Time of Extinction. The new play by Miranda Rose Hall (currently in-development) is a new solo theatre and music performance starring Malouf that grapples with being a human in a time of mass extinction. This project is being developed through an ongoing two-year residency with the Orchard Project's NYC Greenhouse. Both Malouf and Cassidy trained at the Franklin School for the Performing Arts in acting, singing, and dancing, toured with Electric Youth, and performed with the Franklin Performing Arts Company.

Nadine Malouf Selected As One Of Lincoln Center in New York City's 'Emerging Artists'


Nadine Malouf, graduate of the Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA), has been selected as one of Lincoln Center in New York City's "Emerging Artists" for 2019. Malouf has starred in two Lincoln Center productions: last season's qUEENS and 2014's The Who and the What, both at LCT3. Recipients are chosen by one of Lincoln Center's resident organizations in acknowledgement of their extraordinary talent and promising careers in the performing arts.

The LA Film Festival Announces 2018 Winners


The LA Film Festival, produced by Film Independent, announced the winners of the 2018 Festival at the Awards Reception at the W Hotel in Hollywood presided over by Festival Director Jennifer Cochis and Film Independent President Josh Welsh. Cochis and Welsh also took the opportunity to thank the more than 50 generous sponsors, funders and media partners without whom the Festival would not be possible.
