When Jinkx Monsoon was cast as our newest Audrey. Everyone seemed to be so excited. Now that Jinkx is playing the roll, I'm having difficulty finding any feedback or opinions.

Excited not really enough to see it again with him. I did hear though from friends .....just not good as Audrey.

i think the silence on her performances thus far is telling... not alot of fanfare like there was when she was in a much smaller role in Chicago. im still quite curious though. lots of potential there.

I‘m seeing the show again this week and I’ll post when I do. I’m a huge fan of Jinkx so I’m hoping they’re good.

Fwiw the reports from Reddit and Twitter seem quite positive. I haven't really seen any negative feedback there.

I think the silence here may simply due to it having been less than a week and in a fairly small house.

Plus several new shows like Cabaret, Vanya, Mother Play, Mary Jane, Heart of Rock & Roll, etc. started previews last week.

I caught the Saturday matinee. I was a bit nervous going in, but I was very impressed. I thought she did a wonderful job. I appreciated that her performance wasn’t an Ellen Greene impression. She went back to the text and gave a lot of the familiar lines her own spin which was refreshing. You could tell she’d been waiting her whole life to sing Suddenly Seymour. I’m a massive Jinkx fan so take my thoughts with a grain of salt I guess, but I loved her performance.

I was excited to see her as Audrey, but to be honest, the ticket prices are a bit too high for a production I don’t really have much desire to see again. Maybe I’ll cave and see it, but I’d rather spend my money on something new.

I love Jinkx!!! I went last night and was really looking forward to it. But to be honest I was quite dissapointed. Cannot really put in words why. Something was just off for me. This was also my first time seeing Jinkx live and I dont remeber her speaking voice beeing so high. Seemed like she was trying to sound higher but I think her speaking voice would fit just the way it is. But maybe that is her "normal" voice. I dont know Little Shop good enough to tell you if/what was Transposed. Except Suddenly Seymour was obviously Transposed. And I dont mind that at all! Singing wise I think it was okay. I thought she struggled a bit here and there. And there were some flat Notes. Again, I dont know the music to well. It just sounded a bit off to me. In Suddenly Seymour she had very good moments but then again some not so good ones. And even if there were good moments... they were just good. Nothing amazing.
Dont get me wrong. I looooove Jinkx. I'm happy I saw her. I'm so happy for her she gets to play this role. And its also great that she is able to push boundries with her Performance. But also beeing honest to my self. I was dissapointed and I dont think that this role is a good fit for her, in my eyes. I think Mama Morton, from what I heard, is a way better fit for her. And Im sure she is spectacular in that role.
Probably also didnt help that I didnt love the other Roles as well. Johnny Newcomb was on for Seymour and I think he was fine but not more. The Guy playing Mushnik made the impression to me like he didnt want to be there. I didnt care much about James Carpinello either.
I saw 1 Production of LHS before. That was in London Regent Park 2018 and I liked that Version way more than last night.

I dunno if this is entirely fair: I was able to get a $130 ticket for a Saturday night in the 4th row.

They probably practice dynamic pricing. Near the end of the Darren Criss/Evan Rachel Wood run, the front center orchestra seats were priced at $450 on telecharge.
Right now, I do see $250 for the front center orchestra seats for a lot of dates when Jinkx is performing.

Put me in the LOVED her category. Little Shop is my favorite show, and I have had the opportunity to see the 80's off-Bway production as a child and many iterations since - including at Encores and three other times at the West Side Theater. I got to see Jinkx's first show and thought she was everything Tammy Blanchard wanted to be and more. Her Audrey was uniquely her own while still holding homage to the ultimate Audrey, Ellen Green. Her Somewhere That's Green was absolutely heartbreaking, and her comedic timing was pretty spot-on for a first show. I thought the entire cast really really embraced the camp of the show. Imagine if they all were matching the energy of Christian Borle in the original cast of this iteration. There were some pretty unhinged decisions that I don't remember from other casts but it had me crying laughing (Audrey REALLY hates Chiffon.) I felt like the entire cast (minus Mushnick, who was seemingly performing in a different show entirely or just really did not want to be there)
I admit that the key changes in Skid Row and Suddenly were a little jarring at the time, as it was quite obvious that a section had been transposed. However, it was in no way a deterrent to how much fun I had and how much life and energy this production had - by far my favorite cast of this production. I immediately purchased tickets to later in her run just to see how she settles into the performance. If you connect with queer art - seeing Jinkx tackle this role truly is something you should experience.
