After winning 'Best Actor' at the Gershwin Awards, The National High School Musical Theatre Awards' regional awards program in New York City, Ryan Koerber is now preparing to represent New York at the Jimmy Awards on June 29th, 2015 at the Minskoff Theatre. This third video blog features the week of Ryan's final show with his dance company!

Let's start from the very beginning with Durango High School's Les Miserables. Our Director, Kristin Winchester, knew that a lot of kids would be auditioning for the musical, so for auditions she had us choose two contrasting songs from the musical. I often play the ingenue in shows, so it was a big change playing Eponine. I worked almost solely with Curtis Salinger, a freshman at the time, who played Marius. His curiosity and enthusiasm for this art really reminded why I love theatre. Our opening night was incredible. There was this buzz in the theatre unmatched by any other performance. I am so humbled be my experience with Les Miserables. It was an unforgettable journey. 

I truly feel like I have been working on the part of Jean Valjean for more than a year now. Last summer I began voice lessons with Mrs. Jill Holly, largely in anticipation of Les Mis auditions, and it changed everything. It enabled me to worry less about singing and concentrate more on how my acting and singing worked together. I still believe I was not worthy of such a demanding, beautiful role, but I did my best.

Thanks to their fantastic performing arts skills and Las Casas Foundation, two aspiring teen performers will start their summers in the spotlight on a Broadway stage! Through the 2015 Las Casas Performing Arts Scholarship Competition, 'The Joci Awards', talented teens Travis Anderson and Sabrina Uriegas are off to New York City to participate in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (NHSMTA), June 24 through June 30.

Thanks to their fantastic performing arts skills and Las Casas Foundation, two aspiring teen performers will start their summers in the spotlight on a Broadway stage! Through the 2015 Las Casas Performing Arts Scholarship Competition, "The Joci Awards", talented teens Travis Anderson and Sabrina Uriegas are off to New York City to participate in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (NHSMTA), June 24 through June 30.

THE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATRE AWARDS (NHSMTA)/JIMMY AWARDS just announced that 52 high school students from across America will compete for the Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actor and Actress at the seventh annual awards ceremony. The presentation will take place on Monday, June 29th at 7:30PM at the Minskoff Theatre, 200 West 45th Street in Manhattan. Tickets can be purchased by visiting NHSMTA.COM or TICKETMASTER.COM and range from $39 to $79. Premium seats are $175.

Evatt Salinger and Emma Buchanan of Durango High School, who last month were named Outstanding Actor and Actress at the 2015 Bobby G Awards at the Denver Center, sang the National Anthem before a crowd of 30,698 at the Colorado Rockies' game against the St. Louis Cardinals on June 10 at Coors Field. It was the first time either of the students had set foot in a major sports stadium.

ArtsBridge Foundation, the arts education outreach arm of Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, tonight announced the winners of the 2015 Georgia High School Musical Theater Awards - Shuler Hensley Awards during a ceremony at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Award highlights include:  Overall Production - West Forsyth High School for Nice Work If You Can Get It; Direction - Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School's William Patti for Godspell; Leading Actor - West Forsyth High School's Nick Eibler for his role as Jimmy Winter in Nice Work If You Can Get It; and Leading Actress - Milton High School's McKenzie Kurtz for her role as Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins. Additionally, three scholarships and one grant were awarded.

When Cherry Creek's Jimmy Miller accepted his share of the Outstanding Costumes award, he said of late DCPA President and Bobby G Awards Founder Randy Weeks: 'Cherry Creek was honored with one of these last year, and I had the honor of receiving it from Mr. Randy Weeks. I know that he would say to all of you, 'Congratulations to all of the designers, technicians and artists in Colorado high-school theatre.' In celebration of outstanding achievement in high school musical theater performances, Broadway In Chicago has announced the award recipients of the Fourth Annual Illinois High School Musical Theater Awards: Ben Love of Byron, IL (Byron High School) as BEST ACTOR for his portrayal of Edward Bloom in BIG FISH and Grace Etzkorn of Lisle, IL (Benet Academy) as BEST ACTRESS for her portrayal of Winifred Banks in MARY POPPINS. Ben Love and Grace Etzkorn will represent the state of Illinois at The Jimmy Awards in New York on June 29, 2015.

Broadway In Chicago presented the fourth annual Illinois High School Musical Theater Awards held at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 East Chestnut Place) on Monday, June 1, 2015. Schools and students from the state of Illinois are invited to submit and 24 finalists (12 actors & 12 actresses) will be invited to participate in the program. Sponsored by Grosh Backdrops & Drapery and The Mash, the newly-established Illinois chapter of the National High School Musical Theater Awards serves as an annual national celebration of outstanding achievement in musical theater performance by high school students.
