SAN FRANCISCO (September 16, 2014)—San Francisco Opera presents Giuseppe Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera (A Masked Ball) for seven performances October 4 through 22, 2014 at the War Memorial Opera House. The illustrious cast features Mexican tenor Ramón Vargas as the unwisely flirtatious and cavalier King Gustavus III; soprano Julianna Di Giacomo as Amelia, the object of the king's affection; preeminent American baritone Thomas Hampson as Count Anckarström, with Brian Mulligan singing two performances of the role; soprano Heidi Stober as Oscar; and riveting mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick as the fortune teller Madame Arvidson. A compelling tale of love, betrayal and revenge, Verdi's magnificent drama is presented in San Francisco Opera's classic production, conducted by Music Director Nicola Luisotti and directed by Jose Maria Condemi.
Yesterday, Jan. 4, high-flying theater spectacle SPIDER:MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK took its final flight, with Billy Crystal's 700 SUNDAYS, the revival of ANNIE, BETRAYAL with Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, and FIRST DATE with Zachary Levi and Krysta Rodriguez following suit today, Jan. 5.
The 25th anniversary celebration of GYPSY OF THE YEAR, the culmination of six weeks of extraordinary fundraising by 56 participating Broadway, Off-Broadway, and national touring companies, raised an amazing $4,343,234 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The grand total was announced Tuesday, December 10, at this year's GYPSY OF THE YEAR, which included an array of original dances, songs, and skits performed by more than 250 'gypsies,' the most talented singers and dancers in the ensembles of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows.

Death and the Maiden, Ariel Dorfman's political drama, opens the Matrix Theatre Company's 2012-2013 Season. Running from September 21 through October 14, the play depicts a tense political and psychologically complex story which confronts the audience with issues of justice and revenge, especially in relationship to the punishment of war criminals. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8 pm, with Sunday performances beginning at 3 pm, and are presented at the Matrix Theatre located at 2730 Bagley in the heart of Detroit's Mexicantown.
