South Bay Musical Theatre presents the charming musical comedy SHE LOVES ME. Described by The New York Times as a?oea bonbon of a musicala?? and a a?oetasty tale of love lost and found at the workplace,a?? the original Broadway production of SHE LOVES ME was nominated for five 1964 Tony Awards; the show has since enjoyed two successful Broadway revivals, in 1993 (Winner, Tony Award a?oeBest Revival of a Musicala??) and 2016. SHE LOVES ME features a book by Joe Masteroff, music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. It is based on the play Parfumerie by Miklós László (which has also served as the basis for the films The Shop Around the Corner, In the Good Old Summertime and You've Got Mail).
American mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick is one of the world's leading exponents of the dramatic Verdi repertoire. Her talent was first noticed when she was a pre-med student at the University of Nevada in Reno. Some years after that, she debuted with the San Francisco Opera as Azucena in IL TROVATORE, and it brought her international stardom. Decades later, she is best known for her interpretations of Amneris in AIDA, Eboli in DON CARLO, Ulrica in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, Ježibaba in Dvo?ak's RUSALKA, and Adalgisa in Bellini's NORMA.
Summer wouldn't be the same in Los Angeles without the Hollywood Bowl's annual offering of a star-studded Broadway musical; and this year will be no different when the mega-hit Mamma Mia! getting ready to ignite on one of the world's most iconic stages July 28 - 30. Today in 1993, the first Broadway revival of She Loves Me opened at Criterion Center Stage Right, where it ran for 354 performances. She Loves Me is a 1963 musical with a book by Joe Masteroff, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and music by Jerry Bock. The plot revolves around Budapest shop employees Georg Nowack and Amalia Balash who, despite being consistently at odds with each other at work, are unaware that each is the other's secret pen pal met through lonely-hearts ads. The Revival cast featured Boyd Gaines as Georg, Judy Kuhn as Amalia, Sally Mayes as Ilona, Howard McGillin as Kodaly, Lee Wilkof as Ladislav, Brad Kane as Arpad, and Louis Zorich as Mr. Maraczek. A revival cast recording was released by Varèse Sarabande.
