Globally acclaimed Broadway artist and Filipino icon, Lea Salonga, recently returned to her hometown as she starred in her first-ever laundry musical a?" a?oeWhen I Shine With Youa??, telling the story of Lea's most iconic pieces of clothing and how they keep shining anew.

Singer, actress, Broadway royalty, and two-time Disney Princess Lea Salonga recently performed at Cardiff's Wales Millennium Centre in the opening show of her debut solo UK tour. Simon Bowman surprised the sell-out audience by walking up on stage and duetting with Lea to perform A Whole New World from Aladdin.

On this day in 1991, the original Broadway production of Miss Saigon opened, gaining legendary status, critical acclaim, and making a star out of its leading lady, Lea Salonga. 

Just announced, Alistair Brammer will reprise his acclaimed West End performance as the young American GI 'Chris' in Cameron Mackintosh's new production of Boublil and Schönberg's legendary musical Miss Saigon, which begins performances Wednesday, March 1 at The Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway).

It's 25 years since Miss Saigon initially opened in London! And tonight there's a gala performance to celebrate it - with original cast members joining the new stars in a special finale.

Happy Birthday Claude-Michel Schönberg! Schönberg is best known for his collaborations with the lyricist Alain Boublil. Thier stage musical version of Victor Hugo's Les Misérables, which opened at the Palais de Sports in Paris in 1980, opened to acclaim in London in 1985 and on Broadway in 1987. In 1989, their success continued with the musical Miss Saigon, which starred Lea Salonga and Jonathan Pryce. Schönberg's next project with Boublil was The Pirate Queen, a musical about the 16th century Irish pirate, chieftain and adventuress Grace O'Malley, which opened on Broadway on April 5 2007.

Today in 1991, Miss Saigon opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 4092 performances. Miss Saigon is a musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, with lyrics by Boublil and Richard Maltby, Jr. It is based on Giacomo Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly, and similarly tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American lover. The musical premiered at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in London on 20 September 1989, closing after over four thousand performances, on 30 October 1999.The musical represented Schönberg and Boublil's second major success, following Les Misérables in 1985.

The fall ushers in one of the most stunning Broadway blockbusters of all time, Miss Saigon on stage September 21 through October 23 at the Ogunquit Playhouse. Miss Saigon is set during the turmoil of the Vietnam War, where an American soldier, played by Gregg Goodbrod, and a Vietnamese girl, played by Jennifer Paz, fall in love, only to be separated during the fall of Saigon.
