The Broadway production of BACK TO THE FUTURE: The Musical will celebrate with a special performance at both the matinee and evening performances on Saturday, October 21.

Today we rewind to 2015, when School of Rock was getting ready for Broadway. School of Rock opened December 6 at the Winter Garden Theatre, where it played for 1309 performances.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's smash hit School of Rock - The Musical played its final performance on Broadway on Sunday evening, January 20, 2019 by welcoming back dozens of former young cast members to the Winter Garden Theatre stage for one last epic jam session.

School is still in session, but it won't be for long! As BroadwayWorld previously reported, School of Rock, which opened to rave reviews on Sunday, December 6, 2015, will play its final Broadway performance at the Winter Garden Theatre on January 20, 2019. By that date, the show will have run for more than 3 years, playing 1,307 performances and 31 previews.

The musical began preview performances at the Winter Garden Theatre (1654 Broadway) on November 9, 2015 and officially opened, to rave reviews, on December 6, 2015.

In an unprecedented move, performance rights for SCHOOL OF ROCK are available for schools and youth theatres while the Broadway hit is only months old.

Earlier this week, SCHOOL OF ROCK - THE MUSICAL hosted the Shubert Foundation High School Theatre Festival for New York City Public Schools at the Winter Garden Theatre. Alex Brightman emceed the event, which featured five outstanding high school student productions from the 2015-2016 school year. Based on the smash hit 2003 film, SCHOOL OF ROCK - THE MUSICAL follows Dewey Finn, a failed wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. Completely disinterested in academic work, Dewey decides to create his own curriculum, turning his class into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band.
