Galati was an associate director at the Goodman Theatre from 1986 to 2008. In 2004, Galati was inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame. He was the recipient of nine Joseph Jefferson Awards for his contributions to Chicago theater. Galati and co-writer Lawrence Kasdan adapted the novel The Accidental Tourist for a film, The Accidental Tourist which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay), a BAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, and a Writers Guild of America Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. In 1988, she performed in Steppenwolf Theatre’s production of “The Grapes of Wrath” starring Gary Sinise, which eventually went to Broadway and won two Tony Awards in 1990. Miriam has appeared in and composed music for two dozen plays. Her score for “Black Snow” won a Joseph Jefferson award in 1993, and she wrote the music for an anniversary production of “The Glass Menagerie” at Broadway’s Roundabout Theatre in 1994.
