The Obsidian Theatre has announced the Houston premiere of The Q Brother's OTHELLO: The Remix, originally presented on Broadway by John Leguizamo. This is an irreverent retelling with no apologies about what it is doing.  The performers know this, and camp it up to the level of… well… that drag queen who hosts the whole thing.

Obsidian Theater creates a new holiday tradition with the original work, A Drag Christmas Carol. Featuring Miss Gay Texas America 2018, Regina Blake-DuBois, this jukebox musical runs November 29 - December 15, 2018.

Obsidian Theater ushers in Halloween with the campy, bloody musical, Evil Dead: The Musical. This outrageously, wicked musical runs September 27 - October 27 and will include two late night shows with blood splash zone and an after-show Halloween party.

Obsidian Theater in association with Standing Room Only Productions is excited to bring the musical comedy, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, to Houston audiences. This hilarious whodunit will run September 28-October 14 at Obsidian Theater. With book, music and lyrics by Rupert Holmes, this show within a show is based on the final unfinished novel of the same name by Charles Dickens, who left his story unfinished when he passed away in 1870. Due to the novel being incomplete, the identity of the murderer, or the question of Drood's ultimate fate, was never revealed.

It's certainly a relevant piece for our time, and I applaud the intention of bringing it to life in this era of political debate and mistrust of the media. But if you're going to dig this one up then have the nerve to make it feel dangerously close to the outside world.

Obsidian Theater in association with SRO Productions will stage 1984 this June at Obsidian Theater, 3522 White Oak Drive Houston, TX 77007.  1984 is an adaptation by Michael Gene Sullivan of George Orwell's masterpiece novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four.   The play, which takes place in a dystopian future, revolves around the protagonist Winston Smith and his resistance to Big Brother, the Inner Party and its omnipresent government driven by surveillance, propaganda, and manipulation.
