Westport Country Playhouse Offers Discounted Tickets To First Responders For THOUSAND PINES

Westport Country Playhouse is offering $15 tickets to First Responders to attend the world-premiere drama, "Thousand Pines," playing now through November 17.  Written by Matthew Greene, and directed by Austin Pendleton, the production is a story of common humanity, healing, and forgiveness. First Responders include police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and healthcare professionals.  First Responders' discounted tickets are available only by calling the Playhouse box office at 203-227-4177.

Connecticut Humanities has awarded a grant of $20,000 to Westport Country Playhouse to support a series of free-of-charge community engagement events surrounding "Thousand Pines," a world-premiere drama that brings the national dialogue about gun violence to the Playhouse stage, from October 30 through November 17.  Written by Matthew Greene, and directed by Austin Pendleton, the play was developed in early 2017 by the Playhouse's New Works Circle Initiative.

Directed by Mark Lamos, Westport Country Playhouse artistic director, the story of Quixote's battle for good and the love of his fair maiden is written by Dale Wasserman, with music by Mitch Leigh, and lyrics by Joe Darion.

Westport Country Playhouse will present an open-caption performance in Spanish of the Tony Award-winning musical "Man of La Mancha," on Saturday, October 13, at 3 p.m.  This is the first time in the Playhouse's history that an open-caption performance in a language other than English will be offered.  An open-caption screen with the Spanish translation in real time will be located at the side of the stage and visible by all members of the audience.

Westport Country Playhouse announces that due to high ticket demand for its current production of the Tony Award-winning musical "Man of La Mancha," an extra performance has been added on Sunday, October 14, at 3 p.m.  The story of Don Quixote's quest for "The Impossible Dream" begins two and one-half weeks of performances on Tuesday, September 25. Westport Country Playhouse will stage the recent Off-Broadway hit, 'The Understudy,' a backstage comedy about a Hollywood action star rehearsing for a role on Broadway amid tensions with his understudy.  The cast includes Eric Bryant, Connecticut Critics Circle Award winner; Brett Dalton of ABC's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'; and Andrea Syglowski, award-winning actress. Running August 14 through September 1, the comedy is written by Theresa Rebeck, creator of NBC's show business drama, 'Smash,' and directed by David Kennedy, Westport Country Playhouse associate artistic director.
