Bang On A Can Launches New 3-Day Music Festival LONG PLAY April 29

Bang on a Can announces the launch of LONG PLAY, a new, three-day destination music festival. Originally scheduled for May of 2020, Long Play will be presented for the first time from Friday, April 29 through Sunday, May 1, 2022.

The Kitchen Presents Leila Bordreuil PIECE FOR CELLO AND DOUBLE BASS ENSEMBLE II

The Kitchen presents Leila Bordreuil's Piece for Cello and Double Bass Ensemble II, the newest in her series of compositions for amplified cello and six double-basses, which she began in 2015. This work will feature her largest and loudest ensemble yet, creating a violent wall of sound as she uses varied amps and microphones to give immense proportions and unrecognizable textures to acoustic instruments. The piece, with roots in musique concrete, contemporary noise, and even spectral music, features Zach Rowden, Sean Ali, Britton Powell, Greg Chudzik, Nick Dunston, and Vinicius Ciccone Cajado. The event will feature opening acts by improvisational vocalist Charmaine Lee on November 20 and Dylan Scheer (also known as Via App) on November 21. Organized by Tim Griffin.

Rite of Summer Music Festival continues its eighth stellar season with DITHER performing two free shows today, July 7th at 1pm and 3pm. The program will feature works by Eve Beglarian, Josh Lopes, Lisa Renee Coons, Gyan Riley, James Moore, and Taylor Levine. Taking place at Colonels Row on Governors Island, Rite of Summer presents free outdoor concerts through August curated by Co-Artistic Directors Pam Goldberg and Blair McMillen. In a locale The New York Times has called a "Playground for the Arts," the aim of the Festival is simple: to present the highest quality live performances, and to bring free contemporary classical music to as many people as possible in a relaxed, fun, outdoor setting.

Schimmel Center presents acclaimed multi-disciplinary artist and atypical flamenco singer Niño de Elche on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the New York Flamenco Festival. Recipient of the 'Album of the Year' award from the Spanish National Press Association, Niño de Elche's performances fuse flamenco singing and toque with performance art, poetry, improvisation, rock and contemporary music, and electronic elements. He is joined by Raúl Cantizano on flamenco and acoustic guitar, and percussion, and Susana Hernández (Ylia) on keyboards, synthesizer, and electronics.

Nels Cline, Artistic Advisory Board Member for Brooklyn Music School, takes the stage on February 24 to pay homage to Jimi Hendrix. This cross-generational show celebrates the musical genius of Jimi Hendrix that goes beyond boundaries of time and space. Student bands from Brooklyn Music School will join in for some of classic Jimi Hendrix songs. Expect to hear a wide array of classic songs from Foxy Lady to Jam Back at the House and everything in between. The show will also feature light projections by DRIPPY EYE.
