This week The Great American Melodrama adds a classic 19th century melodrama to the bill of fare. Directed by Brian Rickel, making his directorial debut, Lost at Sea takes place in London in 1864. Banker Fentress Franklin (Jim Shine) has misappropriated the funds of his largest investor, Walter Coram (Kyle Huey), who is believed to be lost at sea.

This hysterically funny farce marks the directing debut of Kitty Balay, well-known for her performances on the PCPA stage and for her teachings of early child music classes up and down the Central Coast with Strawberry Music Together.

The Harris Theater for Music and Dance is pleased to present the return of the internationally heralded Sphinx Chamber Orchestra (SCO) on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 7:30 pm. Comprised of the top Laureates of the national Sphinx Competition for young African American and Latino string players, the 25-member Sphinx Chamber Orchestra will perform and eclectic program featuring selections by Prokofiev, Dvorak, Turina, Tillis, and more. Under the direction of conductor Damon Gupton, the SCO will also be joined by the Harlem Quartet, an ensemble comprised of First Place Laureates of the Sphinx Competition. The Sphinx Chamber Orchestra made its Chicago debut at the Harris in 2008 as part of the Theater's Fifth Anniversary Season.

Beginning April 29, The Great American Melodrama in Oceano presents the first production of a new play by Neal LaVine, 'Back After This Break.' Mr. LaVine, who was artistic director at the Melodrama in the 1990's, has crafted a terrific comedy that takes place on the set of a television sitcom in the mid 1960's.
