Birdland Jazz Club has announced its schedule for June 22 - June 28, featuring Django Reinhardt Festival, Erich Bergen Live!, a Special Pride Celebration Including Tony Yazbeck, Molly Pop, and more!

New Jersey Performing Arts Center is proud to announce the TD James Moody Jazz Festival, headlined by the legendary Tony Bennett, from November 7-15, 2015. With help from NJPAC Jazz Advisor Christian McBride, this festival promises to be one of the largest gatherings for jazz fans on the East Coast, showcasing all-star line-ups with some of the country's best musicians, such as Dianne Reeves, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings and the Sarah Vaughan Vocal Competition. Now in its fourth year, the festival offers nine days of concerts, panel discussions and workshops around Newark, in honor of saxophonist, bebop pioneer, and Newark native James Moody. 

The DJANGO REINHARDT FESTIVAL carries on the legacy of legendary gypsy guitarist DJANGO REINHARDT, but with some new songs and interpretations keeping it fresh, exciting, cutting-edge… true to the HOT JAZZ, ROMANTIC, style which has exploded across the US. It all started at Birdland in 2000 with the launching of the Festival and tours at prestigious venues such as Kennedy Center, Disney Hall in LA, The San Francisco Festival.. Legendary gypsy guitarist/composer Dorado Schmitt from the Lorraine area of France, in the tradition of Manouche gypsy life and culture, taught his 3 sons to follow in his footsteps and become jazz afficionados in the style of the great late Django Reinhardt, renowned gypsy guitarist. Schmitt is known for his harmonious melodies, brilliant improvisations and extraordinary technique. He has performed at festivals around the world and with top Jazz luminaries Oscar Peterson, The Pizzarelli's , George Benson, Paquito D'Rivera, James Carter and more.

George Schmitt may not be a 'star', but his family will shine on him brightly this year at the Django Reinhardt NY Festival at Birdland. HOT GYPSY JAZZ dating back to the 20's and 30's in Europe when great gypsy guitarist DJANGO REINHARDT met and performed with virtuoso violinist STEPHANE GRAPPELLI changed music forever and created the one of the most memorable musical partnerships in musical history. This will all be re-created at Birdland Nov. 2-7 and remains music that is ever exciting, creative, original in style and very cutting edge while it still incorporates beautiful melody and romance through the brilliant virtuosity of the players.

'Gypsy Jazz' is a family tradition passed on from one generation to another and so it was with the SCHMITT family coming from the Strasbourg area of France, near Germany.
