Birdland Jazz Club and Birdland Theater have announced all jazz programming running November 6th - November 19th.

The Royal Conservatory of Music adds three concerts to its 2023-24 season, including performances by Joshua Redman, John Pizzarelli Trio, and Caity Gyorgy.

This November marks the 20th Anniversary of the Django Reinhardt NY Festival at Birdland Jazz Club, produced by Pat Philips-Stratta and her late partner, conductor Ettore Stratta. The festival, which began in 1999, has featured many talented musicians over the years who embody the gypsy jazz style of music by the great Django Reinhardt. Of these was guitarist Dorado Schmitt.

Santa Barbara Acoustic Music Association presents SBAcoustic, a highly anticipated celebratory series beginning September 14 with the opening weekend of live international acoustic music concerts, guitar workshops, and artisanal guitar show at the New Vic Theatre.

Birdland will kick-off their great week of programming with the following acts:

'On this stage, you see…five gypsies!' Carrying forward the 'Hot Jazz' legacy of the great Django Reinhardt, this internationally renowned group features one of Europe's greatest musical families, guitarist/violinist Dorado Schmitt and his son Amati. The family is joined by virtuoso violinist Pierre Blanchard and accordionist extraordinaire Ludovic Beier, who 'played as great a solo on his accordion as Toots Thielemans at his zenith' (Downbeat). 'Dorado Schmitt's virtuosity was on full display via lightning-fast finger work, powerful strumming, wild sweeps across the fingerboard and astonishingly fast tempos. Schmitt displayed complete mastery of Gypsy jazz guitar technique' (Los Angeles Times).

A new series for the 10th anniversary concert season brings Canadian trailblazers, each with a unique voice and perspective. The series continues with Canadian saxophone and flute master Jane Bunnett & Maqueque All-Stars on November 30. Bunnett once again brings the soul of Cuba to the hearts of Canadian music lovers with current and former Maqueque band members, including vocalist Dayme Arocena.

Legendary gypsy great Dorado Schmitt from the Alsace region of France returns with the joy of playing alongside his two sons Samson & Amati, guitar virtuosos of the style.   Dorado turns more and more to violin, taught to him by his father as in the gypsy tradition and is passing the torch.  The Band is 'on fire', ripping thru hot swinging numbers and will break your heart with a ballad,  influenced musically  by the top French Jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli as well as America's Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong.

The group's repertoire combines unique interpretations of Reinhardt classics with original compositions. Praised by critics at the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Kennedy Center, and NYC's famed Birdland, the Django Festival All-Stars were recently classified by The Wall Street Journal as "the best jazz show in town." The group includes of one of Europe's greatest musical families - guitarist-violinist Dorado Schmitt and his two sons, Samson and Amati - along with violinist Pierre Blanchard and accordionist Ludovic Beier.

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts announces the 2018/19 Jazz Season lineup featuring critically-acclaimed artists, high-energy soloists, internationally renowned groups, and diverse talent. The Django Reinhardt NY Festival is in full swing at Birdland, it's New York City home. Jean Django Reinhardt was a Belgian-born, Romani French jazz guitarist and composer, regarded as one of the greatest musicians of the twentieth century.

The Django Festival Allstars return from France and head into their cross-country 'HOT JAZZ' tour, playing The Newport Jazz Festival and BIRDLAND for the bi-annual Django Reinardt NY Festival. Samson Schmitt, son of legendary gypsy guitarist Dorado Schmitt, is a full-fledged leader in his own right.  The Schmitt family comes from Forbach, France, living in a gypsy community  where music reigns supreme. The soul of  the Manouche tribe is apparent as they pass music from one generation to another.The Django Festival Allstars bring the Django style  up to date with original songs and old favorites. Featuring Ludovic Beier on accordion, Pierre Blanchard on violin, DouDou Cuillerier on rhythm guitar and scat singing and Antonio Licusati on bass.
