Music on Main presents Vicky Chow Plays Philip Glass on stage March 28, 2023, at 7:30pm at Christ Church Cathedral (690 Burrard Street). In this highly anticipated homecoming, Vancouver-raised new music superstar Vicky Chow returns from New York to perform legendary composer Philip Glass' Piano Etudes, Book 1 in an otherworldly, powerful joining of two immense musical talents.

Anchored by evocative melodies and an enthralling lyrical narrative, First Two Pages of Frankenstein signals a new chapter in the band’s beloved discography. The 11-song album was produced by The National at Long Pond Studios in upstate New York and features guest appearances by Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers and Sufjan Stevens.

The expansiveness of Bardo’s musical landscape is further evidenced by the several needledrops featured in the film, which range from David Bowie’s iconic “Let’s Dance” to contributions from salsa pioneers Héctor Lavoe and Willie Colón, Mexican pop icon José José, “The King of Cumbia” Andrés Landero, conga drummer Joe Cuba and more. 

The album features an original score co-composed by Dessner and Iñárritu to accompany the profoundly moving journey of a Mexican journalist and filmmaker returning to his native country. The project is the latest collaboration between Dessner and Iñárritu, the duo having previously worked together on The Revenant soundtrack in 2015.

The Hermitage Artist Retreat has announced the first several programs for the new calendar year. These events will be presented on the Hermitage’s historic beachfront campus on Manasota Key and throughout Sarasota County.

This season, the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s 2022/23 Colburn Celebrity Recital series at Walt Disney Concert Hall will present 10 one-night-only performances from world class instrumental virtuosi to stellar operatic voices, from across the globe.

In their first UK festival performance since before the pandemic, American soft rock quintet The National have shown themselves to be capable of a competent return to form. Their particular brand of soaring choruses is reminiscent of a brooding film soundtrack, and is a perfect fit for the atmospheric surrounds of East London’s Victoria Park.

The National have been playing a number of new songs live since returning to the road this May, and now, the group releases one of them as a new single through 4AD, “Weird Goodbyes,” feat. Bon Iver. The single continues the tradition of Justin Vernon’s collaborations with the band in the studio and on stage.

To celebrate the album’s release, King Princess performed at Lollapalooza last week following a special album release show at Chicago’s House of Blues the night before. Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, will present the world premiere of Third Bird, with a libretto and direction by Isaac Mizrahi, music by composer Nico Muhly (played by Ensemble Signal and conducted by Brad Lubman), choreography by John Heginbotham, and lighting by Brandon Stirling Baker.
