Will Block BIO
I was born in Sacramento, California. The son of a journalist and a teacher, I demonstrated an obsession with playing pretend from a tender age--my earliest performance involved sticking a plastic snake down the back of my pants to stand in for a tail, and running around the house pretending to be a Tyrannosaur. The performance was very well received.
After joining the Sacramento Theatre Company's Young Professionals Conservatory, I diversified my roles, tackling works by Dickens, Rostand, Shakespeare, and Athol Fugard.
I then attended UCLA's School of Theater, Film, and Television with a double emphasis in Acting and Directing. During my time there, I also became Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Company at UCLA, directing The Tempest and Twelfth Night.
Immediately after leaving school, I founded Method and Madness, an LA based classical company focused on performing Shakespeare's plays in an intimate and scaled down setting that places the emphasis on the words and characters rather than concept. I hold the title of Artistic Director.
I am a nerd in the classical sense of the word. When not hard at work on a project, I can usually be found building costumes, enjoying a BBC period piece, or spending time with my cats (a calico named BeAtrice and a tabby named Butchy).
