The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra has announced details of the 2024-25 season, its 103rd, which will feature the greatly anticipated revival of Giants in the Earth – the Pulitzer Prize winning opera by American composer Douglas Moore (The Ballad of Baby Doe) based on Ole Edvart Rølvaag's epic novel about Norwegian settlers of the Dakota Territory in 1873.  The SDSO's production will be the first ever fully professional staging of Moore's opera.  More details on Giants in the Earth can be found at the bottom of this release.

Steinway & Sons presents It Takes One to Tango, the extraordinary new album from pianist Jeanne  Golan. Golan describes the album as “a collection featuring tango-inspired gems that are largely unknown.

When the New York Philharmonic comes to Ann Arbor this year for their second major orchestral residency with the University of Michigan's University Musical Society, two U-M students will take center stage with them at Hill Auditorium Nov. 18.

Harold Hagopian, president of New York Stringed Instrument Company Inc., who is a Juilliard graduate and violinist, has partnered with the New York Philharmonic to create the Official New York Philharmonic Apprentice Violin, which the Orchestra has endorsed as a high-quality starter violin for children, as well as the Master Violin for more advanced students. Now available nationally through SHAR MUSIC, this is the first time that the New York Philharmonic has made such an endorsement.

The New York Philharmonic will present Bernstein's Philharmonic: A Centennial Festival, October 25-November 14, 2017,celebrating the former Philharmonic Music Director and Laureate Conductor on the centennial of his birth. The festival - which is part of the worldwide salute to the legacy of the renowned composer, conductor, pianist, and educator - will center on Bernstein's symphonic cycle, conducted by Alan Gilbert and Leonard Slatkin, complemented by other Bernstein works as well as by music by composers he admired and championed. In addition, the Philharmonic will present a Young People's Concert - the series that Bernstein famously brought to national attention through the television broadcasts - titled Inspirations and Tributes: "Celebrating Leonard Bernstein," conducted by Leonard Slatkin and featuring pianist Makoto Ozone on November 11. A number of other events - ranging from a marathon of Bernstein's Mahler recordings to a partnership with Harvard and University of Michigan to explore Bernstein as an educator and conductor - complement the concerts throughout the centennial season. Bernstein served as the Philharmonic's Music Director from 1958 to 1969, when he was named Laureate Conductor, a title he held until his death in 1990.

The 94th season of the New York Philharmonic Young People's Concerts (YPCs) will continue on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. with "Classical," the second program in this season's series, The Ages of Music - each program exploring the sound, composers, and culture of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern eras, respectively. The all-Mozart program will feature the Overture to The Marriage of Figaro and selections from the Symphony No. 31, Paris; Flute Concerto No. 2, with Philharmonic flutist Yoobin Son in her Philharmonic solo debut; and Symphony No. 39. Assistant Conductor Joshua Gersen will conduct the program; Vice President, Education, Theodore Wiprud will host the event, which will also feature classical dancer Thomas Baird and hip-hop dancer Quilan Arnold. The scriptwriters and directors are Nell Benjamin and Laurence O'Keefe, whose collaborations include the Tony-nominated and Olivier Award-winning Legally Blonde, The Musical.

The New York Philharmonic will present its first-ever live concert broadcast on Facebook with the 2016-17 season Opening Gala Concert, Today, September 21, 2016, launching its 175th anniversary season and The New World Initiative, a season-long, citywide project revolving around Dvo?ak's Symphony No. 9, From the New World, and its theme of "home." Throughout the 2016-17 season, The New World Initiative will explore the New World Symphony through performances, community outreach, and education projects on the occasion of the Philharmonic's 175th anniversary season, honoring the Orchestra's hometown and its role as an adopted home for many.
