The Suzi Bass Awards revealed nominations for the 2017-2018 Atlanta professional theatre season on Monday evening, August 27, to patrons and industry artists. Politics and the arts have had a difficult time coexisting during certain eras, particularly during the Army-McCarthy hearings of 1953-54, which colloquially known as McCarthyism. The 90 minute intermission-less play takes place on the eve of Mr. Hughes testimony to the committee and the committee hearing itself. The evening before the hearing, Mr. Hughes is struggling to comprehend his subpoena to the hearings while attempting to write the poem, Georgia Dusk .

Producing Artistic Director Carolyn Griffin is pleased to announce that the play Are You Now or Have You Ever Been , a play written and conceived by Carlyle Brown and directed by MetroStage Artistic Associate Thomas W. Jones II with original music by William Knowles, will be in performance Oct. 5-Nov. 5 at MetroStage.

Rorschach Theatre announces the cast and designers for its revival of NEVERWHERE (2013), Robert Kauzlaric's adaptation of Neil Gaiman's modern cult classic about a man who stumbles upon adventure in a dangerous and magical world that exists below the streets of London. The ensemble cast will include returning cast members Sarah Taurchini as Door and Daniel Corey as Richard Mayhew. The design team will include cutting-edge set and projections design collective Pixelumen Lab.

This communication challenge is the point on which balances the story of 200-pound chimpanzee, Trevor and his owner, Sandra. As a one-time commercial and television star alongside the likes of Morgan Fairchild, Trevor is desperate to prove his relevance in a world that has moved on now that he is no longer the adorable baby monkey of his youth. His owner Sandra swears he is still harmless and childlike, protecting herself from the realities of Trevor's dangers and the deep wounds of her own losses. Based on a true story, Trevor is a tale about how relationships, flaws, and excuses can tip-toe a delicate line between side-splitting humor and dangerous misunderstandings. Trevor and Sandra's relationship spins comically and dangerously out of control in this theatrical story by "Orange is the New Black" writer, Nick Jones. The Chicago Sun-Times hailed Trevor as a "hugely entertaining tragicomedy."

David Auburn's Pulitzer Prize winning play Proof is about as well constructed a play as ever written. The simple story revolves around Catherine, a young woman on the eve of her 25th birthday who is dealing with the death of Robert, her mathematician father; the arrival of her precocious sister, Claire; and Hal, a young former PhD student of her father's coming to go through his writings.

On the eve of her 25th birthday, Catherine's life has been turned upside down. After years of caring for her father, a brilliant but unstable mathematician, he has passed away leaving her to pick up the pieces of the life she suspended during her tenure as his caregiver.
