The Anchorage Symphony Orchestra has announced that acting Artistic Advisor and Chief Conductor Elizabeth Schulze will serve as their next Music Director. Praised by critics as 'an ideal music director whose infectious energy is as contagious as her exuberant and thoroughly committed musicianship,' she is also the Music Director and Conductor of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra.

What better way to open this memorable return to the Atwood Concert Hall than the aptly titled Celebration, by Adolphus Hailstork. After first gaining widespread attention in 1966 when the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra performed his master’s thesis, Statements, Variations, and Fugue, Hailstork has since become one of the most prolific Black American composers of the 20th century with works for orchestra, piano, opera, and everything in between.

The Utah Symphony today announced the lineup for the 2018 summer community concert series in Salt Lake City and surrounding areas, several of which feature outdoor venues. The schedule includes Gina Bachauer Piano Competition Finals on June 22 and 23 at 7 PM at Abravanel Hall, Gallivan Center on Monday June 25, Disney in Concert: "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" on June 27 and 28 at Abravanel Hall, the Utah Symphony at Snowbasin Resort on June 29 and August 7, the Utah Symphony at Thanksgiving Point on July 2, the Utah Symphony at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center on July 3, and Jenny Oaks Baker with the Utah Symphony on August 1 at Red Butte Garden Amphitheatre. Ticketing information is posted with each concert. No tickets are required for the Gallivan Center and Utah Cultural Celebration Center performances, which are free to the public. BWW Review: ROCKTOPIA - A CLASSICAL REVOLUTION at The Broadway Theater

As with the Broadway season's earlier pop concert extravaganza, HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS, this theatre critic readily admits to not exactly being an ideal arts journalist to authoritatively review the touring rock anthem/classical music fusion concert called Rocktopia that has made a stop at the Broadway Theatre. Though my knowledge of the highbrow oeuvre is perhaps slightly higher than a layperson's, my experience with classic rock power ballads rarely extends further than the snippets heard at baseball and hockey games or during the occasional car commercial.
