Broadway Musicals are often fantasies, musical representations about things that could not possibly happen. The saddest thing about Short North Stage’s production of THE PROM, which runs from March 14 through April 7 at the Garden Theater, is that it is based partly in truth.

Hudson Theatre Works is starting its 10th season of plays by women playwrights with “The Little Foxes,” by Lillian Hellman.

“Desire Under the Elms,” Eugene O’Neill’s masterpiece of erotic desire takes a Greek tragedy and sets it on an American Gothic farmstead. The son can see that his father’s new young wife plans to push him out. His passionate hatred for her is only matched by hers for him. Blinded by passion, they are set on a collision course.

In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad and Janet, stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a transvestite scientist. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker and a creepy butler. Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named 'Rocky.' Audiences are asked to be masked for the show as well as provide proof of vaccination or negative Covid test prior to entry. The Rocky Horror Show is 90 minutes with no intermission and returns to the Garden Theater, 1187 North High St., Columbus, Ohio from Oct 15-31, 2021. For the second time in a year, the Short North Stage is bringing Mel Brooks' comedic musical YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN back to life. The musical opened Oct. 7 and will run through Nov. 7 at the Garden Theater (1187 North High Street in downtown Columbus).

Hudson Theatre Works will open on October 7th with Bunnies by New Jersey Playwright, Joanne Hoersch.  Bunnies tells the story of five Playboy Bunnies, who n 1973, at the New York Playboy Club, find themselves uplifted by the rise of feminism, haunted by the GoodBar murder and conflicted about their jobs as sex symbols, while they bond in humor and compassion over the course of one evening. 

New Jersey Theatre Alliance presents  Hudson Theatre Works reading of Closing Times, a play by Derek Murphy, on March 25th at 7:30PM.

For the show to be successful, the audience must be engaged with the performance.

Stage version of HOWARD CRABTREE'S WHEN PIGS FLY, the silence can be almost deafening.

Short North Stage will be presenting the Off Broadway Musical Howard Crabtree's When Pigs Fly as their second Virtual Production (following July's John & Jen). Columbus's own Nina West (Rupaul's Drag Race) will Guest Star in the musical accompanied by Short North Stage favorites Thom Warren (Broadway's Lion King) and more.

Haven't heard of it? That's not too surprising. It lasted a little over a month and closed on Broadway after 49 performances. Undaunted, he writes the first act for another musical, ALL-AMERICAN five years later. It also flops, closing on Broadway after 80 performances.

On Wednesday May 11th, 2018 Evolution Theatre Company hosted a staged reading of Charles Busch's The Lady In Question to benefit their 2018 Season. A freewheeling satire of patriotic 1940s thrillers. A glamorous concert pianist is challenged when a handsome American professor engages her aid in rescuing his mother from a Nazi prison. The reading was be held in the Schottenstein Property Group Pavilion of the Columbus Museum of Art.

A renowned dancer and choreographer (Mark Phillips Schwamberger) traveling towards an uncertain future is comforted by his young lover (Nick Hardin), an elite dance student. But he is haunted and challenged by the presence of a silent dancer (Tony White), seen only by him. A visit from his first love and college roommate (David Allen Vargo), a precious fun and memory-filled reunion ultimately threatens relationships and forces all to examine the fine line between the embrace and comfort of memories and the danger of living in the past, relying on illusion to avoid the future. Pantry Boys, a new play by Daniel Sauermilch, directed by Carl Andress (The Divine Sister), and featuring Pico Alexander (Punk Rock at MCC, upcoming feature film "Home Again"), Jared Zirilli (Romance Language, Pretty Filthy with The Civilians) and Nick Imperato (Antony & Cleopatra: Infinite Lives) will be included as part of the Potomac Theater Project's (PTP/NYC) After Dark Series.
