Review: SENSE & SENSIBILITY at 4TH WALL THEATRE COMPANY

What did our critic think of SENSE & SENSIBILITY at 4TH WALL THEATRE COMPANY? I have a feeling the creators of Netflix’s BRIDGERTON saw Kate Hamill’s musical update of SENSE & SENSIBILITY in 2014 and understood what they had to do to make Regency era romance work for a new generation.

BWW REVIEW: AD Players Blends Faith and Space Adventure in APOLLO 8

As a young boy scout from San Antonio, one of the annual trips I always looked forward to was visiting NASA'S Johnson Space Center. Partially, my move to Space City USA was because of Houston's long history and fascination with outer space. AD Players' production of their world premiere production of Jayme McGhan's APOLLO 8 reignites this childhood passion. This stunningly visual play is a tremendous documentary play on the politics, humanity, and faith of the first space mission that led us eventually to walk on the moon.

BWW Review: THE LIFESPAN OF A FACT Brilliantly Poses Complex Questions at 4th Wall Theatre Company

Within the realm of fantasy roleplaying games such as Dungeons and Dragons, players have the ability to choose between moral alignments. One of these is the notion of chaotic good and this phrase is the perfect summation of 4th Wall Theatre Co.'s production of THE LIFESPAN OF A FACT. In short, this production not only asks important questions about the validity of facts but does so in a brilliant way.

4th Wall Theatre Company will present the Houston Premiere production of the recent Broadway smash hit, THE LIFESPAN OF A FACT by Jeremy Kareken & David Murrell and Gordon Farrell.

BWW Review: DEAR JACK, DEAR LOUISE Delights Audiences at A.D. Players

A love-story comes to Houston! Live theatre is officially back, and what better way to kick it off than with a heartwarming (true!) story at the George Theater? A.D. Players opens their 55th season, named a Season of Triumph, with this touching and feel-good Houston premiere. Written by award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig, this show is your picture-perfect comeback to the audience.

BWW Review: RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN raises a feminist eyebrow at 4TH Wall Theatre Company

It has a lot to offer audiences, and women will appreciate the portrayal of their struggle to choose which path they should take. There is the traditional one including a family, as well as the ambitious career-centered one that risks not having that. What do women really want? And are they game enough to go for it once they realize what it is.

Photo Flash: First Look at 4th Wall Theatre Company's RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN

Hot off the heels of sellout smash "Pride and Prejudice," 4th Wall Theatre Company is starting 2019 with another Houston premiere, "Rapture, Blister, Burn" by Gina Gionfriddo. This 2013 Pulitzer Prize Finalist is a comedic but unflinching look at gender politics in the wake of fourth-wave feminism.

BWW Interview: Gravity Players' Courtney Lomelo Talks Charlottesville, Harvey, and 'THE LAST DAYS of JUDAS ISCARIOT'

The Gravity Players present an encore performance of THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT, where the courtroom is in purgatory, the special witnesses include Mother Teresa and the Devil, and the defendant is Judas Iscariot.

BWW Review: THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT

On Friday night The Gravity Players opened a courtroom comedy and exploration of faith, THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT, to a lively audience. Set in the Court of Purgatory, a place of redemption and a 'waiting list' between Heaven and Hell, the audience was to witness trials regarding sinners' placement in Purgatory, as many desired to appeal their judgment to move on to Heaven. Judge Littlefield, played by Paul Menzel, demands Bailiff (Philip Hays) to call the cases, 'God and the Kingdom of Heaven and Earth versus Thorseen the Implacable', 'God and the Kingdom of Heaven and Earth versus Benedict Arnold', and finally 'God and the Kingdom of Heaven and Earth versus Judas Iscariot'.

What has become of Jesus' most notorious follower? In this dark comedy, time and space bend in a provocatively poignant quest to decide Judas' fate. Set in a courtroom in Purgatory, an uproarious cast of characters from Heaven and Hell swarm the stage to determine whether he has any grounds for redemption.

BWW Review: The Dark Side of TRUE WEST

4th Wall Theatre Company has hit the ground running this season with its opening production of Sam Shepard's Tony-nominated play, TRUE WEST. The piece explores a dualism of personalities, sibling rivalry, art as commerce, and what defines a man. Sometimes funny, sad, and frightening, the play never ceases to stir emotions from the audience. The story is interesting, timeless, and was well-told by Kim Tobin-Lehl. Of all the fantastic shows coming this season, this is one you don't want to miss.

4th Wall Theatre Kicks Off 2016-17 Season With TRUE WEST

4th Wall Theatre Company (formerly Stark Naked Theatre Company) opens its 2016-2017 season on September 9th  with Sam Shepard's Tony-nominated masterpiece, True West-a modern American classic exploring themes of sibling rivalry, art as commerce, and what it means to 'be a man.' Like a runaway train, this dark comedy about two brothers and their mutual resentment takes audiences on a thrill ride into the dark side of the human psyche, with laughs and unexpected moments of revelation along the way.  In its world premiere, the San Francisco Chronicle noted that True West is "clear, funny, naturalistic. It's also opaque, terrifying, surrealistic.  If that sounds contradictory, you're on to one aspect of Shepard's winning genius-the ability to make you think your watching one thing while at the same time he's presenting another."

Stark Naked Theatre Company Becomes 4th Wall Theatre Company

After more than a year of heartfelt deliberation among board and staff, Houston's Stark Naked Theatre Company has changed its name to 4th Wall Theatre Company.
