Blackfriars Theatre continues its 2021-2022 season (doing alternating repertory performances with Charlayne Woodard's 'Pretty Fire') with 'Silent Sky', an original play by Lauren Gunderson, who holds the unique accolade of being America's most produced living playwright. It's an inspiring show that touches on themes of gender and patriarchy on the surface, but if you dig a little deeper you'll also uncover explorations of space, time, human connection, and one's legacy.

As the Downtown Eastside community starts to emerge from the pandemic, the Festival is excited to reconnect with our over sixty community partners, including UBC Learning Exchange, Firehall Arts Centre, City Opera, KW Studios, and many more.

The 17th Annual Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival will return this fall, Wednesday October 28 to Sunday November 8, 2020.

Pivoting to the current new normal, the 38th annual Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards were celebrated virtually this year, acknowledging the excellence in professional theatre and saluting the talent who contribute to Vancouver's dynamic theatre landscape.

To honour Vancouver's vibrant artistic community during this challenging time, the 2020 Jessie Theatre Award Nominations were announced virtually, for the first time, on Monday, June 8th, hosted by the mother daughter duo Amanda Sum (seen this season in Chicken Girl and East Van Panto) and Linda Leung.

Steve Rodgers (Co-Director with Kate Champion and Narrator) ensures that the return season of EVERY BRILLIANT THING remains just as powerful and moving as he steps in to the role of Narrator.

After critically acclaimed, smash-hit runs at The Old Vic London, in London's West End, and at The Public Theater New York, Girl from the North Country comes to Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre for a strictly limited engagement. Performances are now on stage through Sunday, November 24.

The COOP and Baruch Performing Arts Center are please to present the world premiere of Barbara Hammond's TERRA FIRMA, which officially opens on Thursday, October 10 at Baruch Performing Arts Center (55 Lexington Avenue).
