Mateo Ferro is a first generation Colombian-American Actor, Singer, and Rapper born in Silver Spring, Maryland. The Montgomery County, Maryland native broke into the scene at 16 when he booked an open-call audition in Washington DC to star in the Grammy Winning Latin Hip-Hop musical In the Heights at The Kennedy Center. Being the only performer with no experience on a Star Studded cast, his performance received critical acclaim, and opened the gates to an impenetrable industry. Following his breakout success, he packed his belongings and moved himself to New York City, alone at 16. In 2018 he made his on screen debut on the Netflix series Manifest. He found continued success on stage, and screen, having acclaimed performances on Broadway, Off-Broadway, Films, and TV by The New York Times, The Hollywood Reporter, and Vulture. In 2021, Ferro began releasing his own music, in English and Spanish proving succuss in both parallels of his career.

The Regional Emmy-Award Winning musical theatre training organization, Young Artists of America (YAA), is now welcoming 4th and 5th grade students into their Summer Performing Arts Intensives. Previously, the program, known to many as the premiere training ground for dedicated musical theatre students in the Mid-Atlantic, was only open to students in middle school and high school. Encores! Off-Center today announced casting for the Production of Nina Fsso and Stephen Schwartz's Working: A Musical. The production will star Andrea Burns, Mateo Ferro, David Garrison, Helen Hunt, Christopher Jackson, Javier Muñoz, and Tracie Thoms.
Despite an earlier report from the Hollywood Reporter, it has been reported that Academy Award-winner Rita Moreno (West Side Story) will not join the cast of the upcoming big screen adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, In The Heights, after all.
