Slipstream Theatre Initiative proudly treads new waters with its sixth season; fusing classic characters and themes with current plays and playwrights. The company's 6-show season expands on their founding mission of creating classical work for a contemporary minded audience by presenting some Michigan Premieres, a World Premiere by Maxim Vinogradov, and a couple other surprises, all focusing on classic stories or characters. 

Picture it. Miami. 1987. A successful television show ends after seven seasons, to everyone's chagrin. Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia live on in all of our hearts as we watch reruns of The Golden Girls over a mound of cheesecake and a bottle of wine. But what if, through some strange bit of Hollywood magic, they were able to come back for a new season? And what if the first episode of that season included the girls doing Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor? The gay gasps would be deafening. Good news, Slipstream Theatre Initiative reimagines Shakespeare's comedy as just that - and invites you to a live filming of Season 8, episode 1: The Golden Girls do Merry Wives!

A wet, wild and wacky comedy is just the thing for these cold, dreary months. Wonder of the World, on stage at Open Book Theatre Company from January 11 to Feb 9, will take audiences on an adventure as they follow Cass to one of the seven wonders of the world: Niagara Falls.

Matrix Theatre Company presents the Michigan premiere of Well-Intentioned White People by Rachel Lynett November 9 through December 2, 2018. Performances take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM and Sundays at 3PM at Matrix Theatre Company, located at 2730 Bagley Avenue in the heart of Mexicantown. Slipstream Theatre Initiative introduces a company first: a partnership with Theatre Nova as a Guest Artist, presenting the award-winning remount of A Night of Stars with Tennessee Williams. Join us for a tour of famous and infamous stars, led by a man admired by more stars than any other: the one and only Tennessee Williams! Appearances on the tour include Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Bette Davis, Truman Capote, Katharine Hepburn, and many more along the way. As in all good tours, the history becomes almost more realistic than the present as the ghosts from the past materialize as flesh and blood. Written by Wilde Award-winner Maxim Vinogradov, this script recently won the Hopwood Award in Drama as well as the Dennis McIntyre Prize. It also garnered five Wilde Award Nominations, including Best Original Play, Best Play, and Best Script.

6 people walk into an oven...Sound like the beginning of a sick joke or a Grimm Brothers' fairy tale? Nope. It's the premise of Maxim Vinogradov's new play, Lost in 3 Pines, reminiscent of Baum's Wizard of Oz.

Slipstream Theatre Initiative has some exciting news! As many people know, this has been a season of stepping outside of the company's comfort zone and embracing new challenges; they did their first devised piece (Tales from the Mitten) and will be doing their first musical (Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill). Because of some very fortunate events, the not-so-young company has been able to expand its ventures even further and they are thrilled to announce the new line-up for the rest of the season.

A very sly con-man with HUGE ideas convinces people that he can make them great again and suddenly everything runs amok. Sound familiar? Oh wait, were you thinking of politics? We would NEVER be political! We're, of course, talking about Moliere's esteemed classic Tartuffe! Silly you.

Four years ago, Slipstream Theatre Initiative came into view with a very sparse but hopeful production of Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale . Now, after 24 full scale productions, the company emerges for its fourth season. Pulling a new card from its deck, the young company ventures into original devised works, classics, and a musical or two.
