The Philly POPS announced today that the 2022 kick-off of its popular Salute Series, Comcast NBCUniversal Memorial Salute, will take the stage on May 27, 2022 at 7 p.m at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts. Registration for military, veteran, police, firefighter, first responder, and frontline worker communities and their families will be available soon through affiliated bases and organizations. Free tickets are now available to the public.

The dynamic introductory host for this 'Love Fest' was Loni Ackerman. 'Song and dance concert to celebrate our 25th Anniversary season (2018 - 2019) and Broadway Cares/Equity fights Aids' (Dancers Over 40 and Friends, 2018). It featured 33 dancers as well as special guests and speakers. Among those memorialized and given special tributes, George Marcy a DO40 board member was eulogized movingly by Carol Lawrence. Ms. Lawrence gave a heartfelt tribute to her mentor, George Marcy. She spoke at length of Marcy's kindnesses and invaluable help within her career. The 'star' quality that Ms. Lawrence possesses shone through as she took the stage and told the audience how very important Mr. Marcy had been in her life. He would be truly missed by her and those who knew him well.

When the radiant, intellectual soprano Julia Bullock stepped on stage Carnegie Hall's intimate venue, Weill Recital Hall (just 268 seats), to wild applause, I felt like I was the only one hearing her “live” for the first time. Everyone else there seemed to have a personal relationship with her and her artistry. I'd somehow missed her “live,” in previous recitals and in the title roles of CENDRILLON and CUNNING LITTLE VIXEN at Juilliard. My loss--and a significant one.

New York based vocalist Teri Roiger recently released her fourth recording as a leader, 'GHOST OF YESTERDAY: Shades of Lady Day', a heartfelt tribute to Billie Holiday. Since Ms. Holiday provided the initial spark that led to a lifelong commitment to jazz, this one is especially personal to Teri.

“If they wrote'm like that today,” Catherine Russell sighs after a particularly saucy number during her show last night at Birdland, “I wouldn't have to go back 90 years.” A Russell show is like actually being there then--primarily from the early 1900s through the 1940s. Which is not to say the artist sacrifices her own, original phrasing for imitation, but rather that feelings evoked by stylish arrangements and spot-on attitude transport us. She offers her audiences vivid authenticity, musical backbone.

Thursday night at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola (Jazz at Lincoln Center), with city lights twinkling as a backdrop, she and her blue-chip band (Music Director Matt Munisteri on guitar; Mark Shane on piano, Mark McLean on percussion, and Tal Ronan on bass) played Russell's show Sultry Summer Swing to two sold-out houses of faithful and burgeoning fans.

Last week, Betty Buckley returned to Joe's Pub to debut her newest cabaret concert DARK BLUE-EYED BLUES. Thrilled to have been recognized as a chanteuse in recent reviews, Buckley programmed the evening to be the "musings of a chanteuse," packing the set with standards and contemporary hits. The Broadway legend performed with tangible vivacity and charm, making this intimate evening a joy to experience.

Following an electric evening of jazz performances at The Metropolitan Museum of Art this past January, Jazz & Colors returns with a more focused and intimate experience. Programmed in collaboration with Met Museum Presents, and titled Jazz & Colors: The Full Spectrum Edition, renowned jazz musicians will once again perform in various iconic Met spaces for a dynamic evening of sublime entertainment tonight, April 24, at 6:00 and 7:30 p.m.

Vocalist Joey Arias is not what he appears to the uninitiated. This is not a drag performer executing pastiche, but rather an artist serious about music with the talent to offer a full-blooded show. Though The Paper Mill Playhouse has just opened Master Class and still has productions of 1776 and The Full Monty geared up for their current season, plans are zipping along for the four musicals and one straight play that will make up their 2009-10 campaign. The official announcement comes this Friday afternoon, but they've released these five pictorial clues as hints. See if you can guess what the gang at Millburn has in store next season.
