For the first time, Singapore was treated to a night of Kinky Revolution as the direct from Broadway's national tour of Kinky Boots opened on Friday (5 Oct). It is a complete visual treat with dazzling neon lights, powerful ballads, and costume extravaganza. Amidst it all, it is also a compelling story of acceptance, determination and kindness. Audiences in the Sands Theatre were bursting with laughter and love throughout the night.

The Musical made its debut in July and they brought a huge amount of glitter, stilettos and joy to China. I can give you a list of reasons why you shouldn't hesitate, but let's start from the most obvious one: Kinky Boots it's currently #1 musical on Broadway and the one behind the music and lyrics is no one less than Cyndi Lauper. And I must say, she's a natural. Her melodies can get stuck in your head for days and the lyrics are powerful enough to bring some tears to your eyes. Tears of emotions and tears of joy, which makes Kinky Boots an intense mix of awesome feelings for those who appreciate a deep yet funny story to be seem on stage.

'Kinky Boots' overcomes a formulaic, predictable storyline with energetic performances and Cyndi Lauper's outstanding score. The national tour features outstanding work from its trio of stars: Lance Bordelon as frustrated shoe factory owner Charlie Price, Jos N. Banks as enterprising drag queen Lola, and Sydney Patrick as spitfire factory worker Lauren. The show plays at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza though Sunday, February 25.

For the most part, the brief Orange County return of the Tony Award-winning musical smash KINKY BOOTS---which continues its quick week-long stop at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through February 11---pretty much preserves its hard-to-escape fabulousness. Its current incarnation as a non-Equity bus-and-truck tour---now presented by Troika Entertainment, but retains many of the original's main elements---only feels slightly different from previous productions you've likely seen. The musical's endearing narrative, its vibrant main characters, and the ear-candy confections concocted by pop superstar Cyndi Lauper all combine to showcase a fun and genuinely lovable musical that celebrates living one's authentic self… triumphantly.

KINKY BOOTS, book by Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles and Torch Song Trilogy) and songs by Cindy Lauper and inspired by true events, is in Providence at the Performing Arts Center for a very short run. Blink and you'll miss it. The musical tells the story of Charlie Price (Lance Bordelon), who inherits a shoe factory from his father and forms an unlikely partnership with cabaret performer and /drag queen Lola (Jos N. Banks) to produce a line of high-heeled boots designed to withstand a man's heft and save the business. In the process, Charlie and Lola discover that they are not so different after all. . When was the last time you saw a Broadway show about sensitive, heroic businessmen? I have to admit that KINKY BOOTS had escaped my notice until the other night and that the audience and I had a really good time Friday night!

Startup Productions has announced the casting for the premier staged reading of Medicine the Musical, a new musical by Michal Ehrenreich. Directed by Rachel Klein with musical director Andy Peterson, Medicine the Musical will be performed at two showings on April 24, 2017 at the Daryl Roth Theater.
