The Keegan Theatre continues its 22nd season with the announcement of the cast and creative team for the regional premiere of the musical HANDS ON A HARDBODY. Inspired by the true events of the acclaimed 1997 documentary of the same name, HANDS ON A HARDBODY features a catchy combination of blues, rhythm & blues, and country songs co-written by Amanda Green and Trey Anastasio of the band Phish. Keegan's production is co-directed by Elena Velasco and Mark A. Rhea with music direction by Jake Null and choreography by Elena Velasco. The show runs March 9 through April 6, 2019 at The Andrew Keegan Theatre in Washington, DC, with the press opening slated for Tuesday, March 12 at 8:00 p.m.

The first five minutes of Theater Alliance's new production of Flood City are some of the most gripping that have graced a D.C. stage in the past year. As two women wrestle the torrential disaster which laid waste to Johnstown, Pennsylvania in 1889, the ensemble creates an immensely satisfying flood across the stage at the Anacostia Playhouse. Just when the dramatic storm is reaching a natural conclusion, the action is cut short by an announcement for the audience to turn off their phones. It's admittedly a humorous turn to the scene but it sets up a dangerous precedent for the remainder of the production: almost every scene is cut short just as it starts to settle into a groove. The result is two hours of wading through a black comedy that can't settle on a pace, tonality, or even a central theme.

La Ti Do Productions (LTD) brings together Washington, DC's best in partnership with DC Metro Theater Arts (DCMTA) to sing-a-long to Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda's music to celebrate the musical tour's residence at The Kennedy Center this summer. Directed by Allison Arkell Stockman, The Constellation Theatre's production opened on September 21. Told against the backdrop of a seedy New York City apartment in the 1920's, this musical is good dirty fun. As all musical theatre fans know, nothing is sexier than the sound of a muted trumpet in low lighting.
