The ultimate pioneer of post-modern dance, Trisha Brown, is known for her abandonment of classic shapes, twisted choreographic pathways, and the constant contrast of freedom and bondage in dance. Following the choreographer’s death in 2017, Trisha Brown Dance Company continues her legacy through classic stage performances, relocated works on site, and lastly, newly commissioned works for their 2024 Joyce Season.

Strong, somber notes from a piano fill the The Joyce Theater as the curtain rises on the annual home season of Brooklyn-based fusion dance company, EVIDENCE. Four spotlights light up each corner of the stage, illuminating the evening’s most heavily featured dancers, Demetrius Burns, Joyce Edwards, Gregory Hamilton, and Isaiah K. Harvey, dressed in shades of brown.

Returning to The Joyce’s virtual stage in 2021, the Trisha Brown Dance Company presents a digital program featuring works from Brown’s initial explorations with movement invention. Featuring an encore presentation of the 2017 Joyce performance of Geometry of Quiet (2002), the program will also include newly recorded performances of Locus Trio (1980), Watermotor (1978) and The Decoy Project—a unique arrangement of Glacial Decoy (1979) for video that incorporates guest artists from the New York dance community.

Trisha Brown Dance Company will celebrate its 50th anniversary at The Joyce Theater (April 21-26) with an historical season commemorating Brown's extraordinary partnership with visual artist Robert Rauschenberg. Over the course of five decades, Brown and Rauschenberg maintained a remarkable creative dialogue, drawing inspiration from each other while investigating the visual and the kinetic. The Joyce program features two pivotal works: Foray Forêt, with original costumes by Rauschenberg, and Astral Converted, featuring Rauschenberg's costumes and mobile set of lighting towers.
Ronald K. Brown/EVIDENCE Celebrates 35th Anniversary At The Joyce
Celebrating 35 years of fusing the beauty of traditional African movement with contemporary choreography, The Joyce Theater Foundation (Linda Shelton, Executive Director) welcomes the return of Ronald K. Brown/EVIDENCE. With a mixed bill of company classics and a newly-commissioned work, the Brooklyn company will play The Joyce Theater from February 25-March 1.
